The video begins and we see the inside of a studio with a male presenter and female presenter both sitting on a couch opposite two other men, one with a moustache and the other clean shaven. Behind the couches that they’re sitting on are various sporting signs and shirts from various English Premier League soccer teams along with sporting apparel such as soccer balls. The male presenter looks at the camera with a confident grin. “Ok, well I guess it’s time for our final guest.” The camera cuts to a small area of terrace-style seating where various men in soccer shirts are sitting and they all cheer. The camera cuts back to the couches. “Please welcome, all the way from the United States, the SCW World Heavyweight Champion... Syren!”
Music starts playing as we see an entrance area where Zoe Sperling stands with a grin on her face. She’s dressed in a short skirt and wearing a black shirt with pink writing on it that reads ‘Don’t Hate... JUST BE JEALOUS’ and has the SCW World Heavyweight Championship over her shoulder. The guys on the terrace cheer again and she gives them a little wave before skipping over to the couches. The two presenters and two other guests are all standing and she kisses the two guests on the cheek before leaning over and kissing the two presenters and then giving a wave to the ‘fans’ and sits down. “So, let’s get this right. First off, welcome to the show! What do we call you? Is it ‘Syren’ or Zoe?”
“I don’t know, what would you prefer?” she says with a huge smile. “You should call me Zoe. When people call me ‘Syren’ it’s normally because they have horrible things to say about me, and hopefully you guys won’t have too many horrible things to say about me, right?”
“We’ll try not to say anything too horrible,” the male presenter says with a laugh. “Ok, do you guys want to see some footage of Zoe in action?”
The ‘fans’ cheered again and the video changes to a montage of clips from Zoe’s SCW career, showing her in action in various different matches and a series of clips of her executing the ‘Total Makeover’ faceplant or the ‘Blondeton Bomb’ top rope move. Along the way there are various shots of Zoe with the Women’s title, Zoe with the World Tag Team Championship alongside Ravyn Taylor, Zoe standing alongside the rest of Infamous, Zoe with David Helms and of course Zoe standing tall with the SCW World Heavyweight Championship above her head. Then the montage ends the ‘fans’ cheer again and Zoe holds up her title belt and smiles at them before looking more seriously at the presenters and putting it back over her shoulder.
“We’ve had a few wrestlers on the show before,” the female presenter informs her, “but neither Max nor I are big wrestling fans. I know that when we announced you’d be on the show though a lot of people around here got very excited, especially our director. Have you been looked after backstage?”
“Well I’ve been talking with a lot of guys,” Zoe replies with a laugh. “Seriously, you guys are all so lovely and I’ve got so many people bringing me cups of coffee today, so that’s been funny. I’ve got a confession to make though. When I first heard about the show and I got invited I was confused because I couldn’t figure out why you had like wrestlers and comedians and, like, television stars on a show about soccer so I looked up some clips on YouTube and... Yah, you guys are crazy.”
The ‘fans’ cheer again as Zoe just laughs. The presenters look at each other and feign as though they’re hurt. “Crazy, us?” the male presenter asks before laughing. “You’d definitely think that if you saw some of the games that people were suggesting for you today. Nothing dirty I promise, but some of them were a little bit crazy. And Helen and me thought to ourselves ‘nah, we couldn’t possibly ask her to do anything like that, she’s a World Champion’, which reminds me. Explain this one to me. You’re the World Champion? How does that work? You’re tiny! I mean no offence but we’ve had wrestlers on the show before and I’ve been scared to get close to them but with you... how tall are you?”
“Five foot four,” Zoe says with a laugh. “And yah, I’m small but so what, you know? Just because you’re little doesn’t mean you have to let bigger people pick on you, am I right?”
There’s a cheer in support. She nods her head and grins. “So, you’re five foot four, and we saw in the video package some of the matches you’ve been a part of,” the female presenter says with a smile. “In the last one were you jumping off a cage? Why would you do that? Doesn’t that hurt?”
“It hurts SO much,” Zoe replies with a laugh. “Ok, let me tell you about that match. That match was three weeks ago, it was in Los Angeles, which is totally my home city you know, and it was for the World title. I had a match a few months ago for this belt as well against the former champion, who is like the biggest jackass on the planet – sorry if I’m not allowed to say jackass on TV.”
“No, you’re fine,” the male presenter replies with a laugh. “Actually, we were a little worried you’d say something worse than that. We’ve heard from a few of the crew that you’ve got, in your own words I believe, a ‘potty mouth’. Our producers were a little bit worried.”
“I do,” Zoe admits with a solemn look and a nod before grinning. “I get in trouble at the shows sometimes where they’re telling me how they had to censor things I say, and the live shows have like a seven second delay and stuff but they still don’t like when you say things you shouldn’t say. I mean, you know, two people beating the hell out of each other on TV is fine, but you say a naughty word and everybody goes nuts! It’s crazy, but it’s something I was told about. They were like ‘Zoe, you’ve got to be on your best behaviour’. So I’m being good.”
“Good to hear,” the male presenter says with a laugh.
“You know I never have that problem,” one of the guests, whom Zoe motioned toward earlier when she mentioned television stars, says to a laugh from the crowd. “Maybe I need more of a bad-boy image.”
“Oh, trust me; having an image of being bad is not a good thing. Seriously, you do one thing one time and people never let you forget it... although in fairness I may have done a few things more than once, but not the point,” Zoe says with a laugh before turning back to the presenters. “Where was I before? Oh right, so yah I had a match with the former champion Jake Starr and he beat me and I got really, really upset about it. So I had a contract that I won back in January called a Trios Contract, because there were three of us in the team so, you know, Trios Tournament... anyway, I used that contract to book the Steel Cage match thinking it would be against Jake, but the night before Regan Street, who’s like so talented that it’s a little intimidating, beat him and I ended up facing her instead. So that match was super high pressure knowing that basically it was my last chance, and winning it meant everything to me. So yah, jumping off the cage hurt so much – and to any kids watching, it’s a really, REALLY stupid thing to do, so, you know, don’t – but it was my chance and I needed to do it to win. And it was worth the pain.”
“It’s worth the pain to win the World Championship,” the male presenter says with a smile. “So, how much pain is there involved in holding that belt?”
“Are you kidding?” Zoe asks with a laugh. “At the moment we do an average of about one show a week, so after a match you’ve got a lot of time to recover and after some matches you REALLY need that time. Like after that cage match I seriously went home that night and all I did the whole next day was mope around the house going ‘ow’. Starting next month though we’re touring more, and that is going to be SO hard. But, you know, winning the belt means that I get to walk out in to the brightest spotlights in the world, in front of fans all over the world, like here in England—”
The crowd cheers.
“–and there really is no feeling like that in the entire world. It’s everything I’ve wanted since I first put on a pair of wrestling boots, which was actually right here in London.”
“Ah, that’s right; you were trained by Yvonne Knight,” the female presenter says, to a cheer, “who’s one of the Knight family. Just a little bit famous!”
“Oh yah, I saw the commercials that Lucas was in before. Like I went to university in London for a year – because I sucked at it so I dropped out, which is also something that nobody else should do, because seriously I’m a terrible role model for everyone, ever – and I remember this one commercial he was in back then for Old Spice. I also remember this one guy I was at university with basically went out and bought it JUST because Lucas Knight was the guy advertising it, and I think he was a little disappointed when it didn’t work as well for him,” Zoe recalls with a laugh. “Like seriously though, he’s EVERYWHERE over here! It’s like either Lucas Knight or David Beckham. I think you people might have a problem.”
The male presenter nods his head slowly. “Well there was a time I believe that you actually dated Mr Knight,” he says with a smirk, “but that didn’t end all that well.”
“No, it really didn’t,” Zoe admits with a shake of her head. “I could talk for so long about Lucas and me but it would probably only get me in trouble. I do owe him a lot though. I learned a lot from Lucas while we were together, I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today if I didn’t have him as a part of my life and for that I’ll always be grateful. That’s the past though, it seems like a billion years ago, and I’ve moved on.”
“And speaking of moving on,” the female presenter says quickly, “let’s talk about the reason you’re actually here today. You’re promoting Supreme Championship Wrestling and their UK shows. Why don’t you tell us a little about the tour?”
“Yah, we’re on tour over here this week. Um, we’re doing a show tonight in Manchester – I actually came down from Manchester this morning to do this show, and I’m going back there again right for the show tonight – and the last few days we’ve been doing some promotional events. We did a set at a mall in Manchester yesterday which was a lot of fun; I was there with my boyfriend—”
“That would be David Helms, SCW Adrenaline Champion?” the male presenter asks.
“And one half of the World Tag Team Champions,” Zoe adds happily. “So yah, we were there yesterday and we’re doing the show tonight, Supreme Saturday in the Manchester Arena, and then we’re travelling down here tomorrow and staying in London a few days and we’ve got a huge show on Wednesday night for Breakdown. I think there are some promotional events going on in London, so you guys should totally come and check some of those out if you’re available. And then after that we go back home and we’ve got some shows in the New York area before our next pay per view event, which is Taking Hold of the Flame on June 2nd.”
“I wanted to ask you about this,” the male presenter says excitedly. “Taking Hold of the Flame has a Battle Royal, is that right? Thirty competitors from anywhere in the world can come and compete and try and win a World title match with you?”
“I don’t know if it’ll be with me – obviously I HOPE it’ll be with me, but I’m facing Brittany ‘The Man Beast’ Lohan at Taking Hold of the Flame, so it might not be but you know, fingers crossed – but yah, that’s the general idea. There’s a Battle Royal, and people from all over enter it. There’s rookies in there looking to win a huge opportunity, there’s a whole bunch of veterans in there who are trying to main event the biggest pay per view in history, and this year it really IS the biggest in history because this year it’s the tenth anniversary show, it’s in Toronto – which is where SCW was started and is run out of still – and tickets for the event sold out in like twenty five minutes or something insane. But yah, the rules of the Battle Royal say that the winner gets to go to Rise to Greatness and gets to face the champion, and there is NOT a bigger match than that in the world. That is absolutely my dream match, getting to walk out there as the World Heavyweight Champion would just be the absolute top moment in my career and I don’t think I could ever top something like that. So I’m going to try and make it happen, but like I said, it might not because there’s a long way to go.”
“Did you call her the ‘Man Beast’?” the female presenter says with a laugh.
“Oh, yah, that’s not ACTUALLY her name,” Zoe replies with a laugh of her own.
“Oh, good, because I was about to ask about that one,” the female presenter replies, still laughing.
“You can ask,” Zoe says with a cheeky smile. “Let me tell you a little about Brittany. She is, honestly now, the scariest woman on the planet. A lot of people either think she IS a guy or think it’s really funny to SAY she’s a guy. One of the commentators calls her Brian because he’s absolutely convinced that she’s either a guy or she’s a post-op transvestite. Seriously though, Brittany is a woman, I’ve shared a locker room with her in the past, and she’s scary. Like, she’s SO scary. Her arms are, like, thicker than most people’s heads, she’s got veins on them the size of my legs – I make that joke a lot, but it’s true... they’re creepy – and she is so powerful. Like, SO powerful. I’ve been in the ring with her and she hits harder than a lot of the guys. Actually she WEIGHS more than some of the guys. Taking Hold of the Flame for me is going to be a huge challenge.”
“So this woman you just described, who in your own words is what, part man, part beast?” the female presenter asks.
“Yah, like South Park, like ManBearPig. It may actually have been Brittany Lohan that he was looking for in that episode,” Zoe says with a laugh.
The male presenter laughs as the female continues her question. “If she’s this scary, why in the world would you want to FIGHT her?”
“Ok don’t get me wrong, she’s scary, but I’m not afraid,” Zoe tells her with a smile and a nod. “I’m not scared of anyone. I’ve gone out there every night for four years and I’ve faced the biggest challenges in the world. A lot of people whine when they get triple threat matches or four way matches but I don’t whine, I don’t cry, I just think that it’s two or three people in the ring with me and it’s a chance to show I’m better than all of them. I’ve won triple threat elimination tag team matches before now.”
“Triple threat ELIMINATION tag team matches?” the male presenter asks. “Dare I ask?”
“Oh it’s simple,” Zoe says with a smile. “Three teams of two, if one of you gets eliminated the other person has to work on their own. My partner got eliminated super early in the match, the World Tag Team titles were on the line, and I kept fighting and in the end I won. It’s what I do. Seriously, I’m not scared of any challenge. I say it a lot and I honestly believe it, I am the Best Female Wrestler in the World, and it’s not a marketing slogan, I don’t put it on t-shirts – although I should, because you know people should know – but it’s something I say and something I believe, and facing Brittany Lohan at Taking Hold of the Flame is my chance to prove it.”
“The Man Beast,” the male presenter says before laughing. “With a name like that we should invite her on the show.”
“Oh I wouldn’t,” Zoe replies with a shake of her head. “I mean you’ve got so many nice people here, you wouldn’t want to scare them away.”
“Well I’ve got to say, it was fun having you here. Are you wrestling at all in England?” the male presenter asks.
“Actually no, which is way disappointing,” Zoe admits with a shrug. “Maybe next time, right?”
“Well I was going to say good luck with that, but in that case good luck with Taking Hold of the Flame, you’re definitely the best looking wrestling guest we’ve ever had on the show—”
“Duh,” Zoe replies with a laugh.
“—and good luck defending that title. We hope you do well. Ladies and gentlemen, give it up for Zoe Sperling, the SCW World Heavyweight Champion Syren!”
The fans applaud as Zoe kisses the tips of her fingers and blows kisses out to them. The presenters stand up and seem as though they’re about to say something to the camera when the clip ends.
