The video begins and we see far from the normal somewhat scenic backdrop that tends to accompany these videos. Instead we see only a plain white wall, in front of which is stood the former five-time SCW World Champion, Syren, who nods at the camera. “What’s up guys? So, I’m a little busy this week because we’re on tour and earlier today we arrived in Berlin, Germany, and I’ll be completely honest with you: I have absolutely no idea what time it is right now. My brain says it’s about half twelve in the afternoon. The fact it’s dark outside tells me it might be a little bit later. But that’s one of the things you’ve got to deal with when you’re on an international tour, right? It can get pretty crazy on these things. But speaking of things that are pretty crazy, last week we were in San Francisco for Breakdown and it was my birthday and I had a… not terrible night. I mean it wasn’t the best night ever. It doesn’t tend to be when your manager gets beaten down. But I’ll get to that in a moment. Before we focus on the bad of last week, first I want to focus on the good,” she says before stepping out of frame for a moment and returning with the original SCW World Heavyweight Championship belt. She laughs as she looks up into the camera. “Yah, I brought it to Germany. That was partly because this thing is so amazingly valuable to me that I’m a little bit worried about leaving it unattended anywhere in the world, but mostly it’s because I knew I’d be recording this video and even though I’ve said it to him in person about ninety times it doesn’t feel like it’s enough and it feels like I need to say it publicly as well.”
She takes in a deep breath and looks down at the title again before looking up at the camera. “Alex… thank you. Just… thank you. This year you’ve given me two presents which I don’t think I can ever truly express how much I’m grateful for. The first was agreeing to come back and stand by my side and be my manager. More than that, it was endorsing me. There are so many people in this company who, for so many years, would have done anything for that endorsement, and others still who got that endorsement and pissed it away like it was nothing. But you know I’m not one of them. You know that I have more respect for you, and for your involvement in the history of this business, than almost anyone else who’s ever worked here. You know that I’m a student of wrestling, you know what this sport means to me and what I give for it and I know what you’ve given for it, I know what you sacrificed to get to where you were, and I know that you wouldn’t have come back, and you wouldn’t have helped me, and you wouldn’t stand by my side if you didn’t believe in me, and for that I’m so very grateful,” she says with sincerity. “Then the second thing you’ve given me is this, and… it’s something I tried to give back to you, because I know what this belt means. It’s not a trinket. It’s not a toy. It’s not something that you ever treated as such, and it’s damn sure not something I’ll ever treat as such. This belt has a legacy. It has a meaning that goes beyond just it’s face value. And so do you, Alex. You have a meaning and a legacy in SCW that goes beyond just what you’ve done. And one day I hope that people will say that same thing about me.”
She takes a deep breath in, nods her head happily and then moves out of view of the camera again. When she returns she’s once again without the title belt. “But here’s the thing, today isn’t about long speeches about birthday presents. It isn’t about respect for CHBK. In fact, it’s about the opposite of that. It’s about the disrespect shown to him last week. And you know damn well who I’m talking about doing that, don’t you Josh?” she asks before shaking her head. “Yah, I’m back to talking about Josh Hudson. It’s like I’m stuck in a reoccurring nightmare where every time I turn around Josh Hudson is attacking someone I love from behind because he’s trying to hurt me. The worst part? He knows he’s succeeding at it to. So, I figure I have two choices at this point. I can ignore what happened last week, not give him the satisfaction of talking about it, and pretend like it didn’t bother me… or I can be honest, call him a lowly piece of shit who once again thinks that attacking someone FROM BEHIND makes him a big man and not the cowardly little BITCH he is, and feel better having acknowledged it. And there we go, I immediately feel better. So does Alex, as it turns out. That attack last week, choking him out while he was trying to be a man and solve the problems at the moment with WORDS and not cowardly cheap-shots, may have left him unconscious, but the good news is that it didn’t take him all that long to pick himself up again. So, as it turns out, there’s no lasting harm done to Alex… but there will be to Past, Present, Future.”
She just stares coldly into the camera, wanting the world to know that she meant that one hundred percent. “To be completely honest, I’ll be shocked if they let the three of you past German customs due to the fact that the three of you just existing is almost enough to incite an international incident. Still, I’ll be disappointed if you’re NOT at Breakdown tomorrow night – err, tonight? I seriously have no idea what time it is right now – because I consider myself a respectful person, someone who doesn’t lower herself to the level of the Regan Streets of this world without due cause, and Past, Present, Future have given me MORE than enough due cause to do exactly that. Were you proud of yourself last week, Josh? You won’t be proud of anything this week if we return the favour, will you? And there is nothing I want more right now than to see you carted off to the local German hospital unconscious on a stretcher this Wednesday night after I choke you out, so do something for me this week, will you? Watch your back. Watch behind you EVER step you take, because you never know when Dark Fantasy will be there to remind you that you three douche-canoes may think you’re the Past, Present and/or Future of this business, but Ravyn, Alex and I know that the three of us are INFAMOUS for a reason,” she says with a snarl. “And I really want to show you that reason, Josh. I really do. In fact, you know what? I’ll show you another reason that we’re infamous as well come Wednesday… only you may end up watching it on the replay, because you’ll be unconscious when it airs live.”
She scoffs and rolls her eyes. “That second reason that Ravyn and I will forever be infamous around these parts is that no matter what bullshit you and your friends try to pull, no matter what attention-seeking crap you lower yourself to, no matter how desperate you all are to get your names out there Ravyn and I know the very BEST way to get our names talked about and that’s to walk out to the middle of the ring despite EVERYTHING going on around us, step up against the biggest challenges going, and win. This week, that’s what’s going to happen. Ravyn Taylor versus Konrad Raab, a hero in Germany who’ll try his very best and give all he’s got and it won’t be enough against Ravyn, and Syren versus Donovan Kayl in a match with nothing on the line and yet a match that every single person in the Mercedes-Benz Arena is waiting to see live,” she says before smiling proudly. “And it’s a match that I’ll be glad to bring to them as well. It’s a match I’m excited about. It’s an opponent I’m excited about. And why wouldn’t I be? I mean, Donovan Kayl and I have a whole lot of history, right? You guys want to hear all about it? Well… that’s actually not going to happen. It could. I could stand here and I could tell you about Standing Room Only. I could tell you about my history with them. I could tell you about the good days and the bad days. I could tell you the reason why I respect the hell out of Kayl but that I’ve always found it hard to consider him anything but a rival and not a ‘friend’, but I won’t because this match this week isn’t about our history. It isn’t about the disagreements we’ve had. It’s about the here and the now… and it’s about what’s still to come.”
She smiles. “When Donovan challenged me a few weeks ago I did a double-take at the monitor I was watching, wondering if I actually heard what I heard and saw what I saw. Do you want to know why? It’s because with the run that he’s had I thought for sure he’d be looking at somebody else. I thought he’d be looking at a champion. I thought he’d be looking to stake a claim on the World Championship, or the United States Championship, or any other title that took his fancy. And, if he was, I’d find it damn hard to argue against him deserving that opportunity. Wouldn’t you? I mean, just look at what he’s done this year. Look at the matches he’s had. Look at the run he’s put together. Look at the fact that with Donovan at the moment you’re guaranteed entertainment. It’s not rare in this business to see someone go on a roll, put together a few impressive matches, and get themselves talked about. The thing about that though is normally those rolls come to an end pretty quickly, the momentum fades out and the person drops back down a little. With Kayl that hasn’t happened. She’s torn it up all year. He’s been talked about at the very top level in this business for months, and for months he’s been showing the world why he SHOULD be talked about up there. So a few weeks ago he challenges me and the first question I ask is ‘why’,” she says before shrugging her shoulders and smiling. “Then I decide I don’t even really care, because if he wants to challenge me you can guarantee I’ll be right there ready to accept.”
She nods proudly. “That’s one thing I’ve said for a long time. I’m not hard to find. You want me, I’ll be in the middle of that ring busting my ass and proving why I’m amongst the best in the world. So, you’ve got something to say about that, just step up, grab a microphone, and issue a challenge. I’ll fight anyone, anywhere. I’ve been proving that a long, long time. Hell, I proved that when I was the SCW World Heavyweight Champion, when rather than DUCKING challenges I was ACCEPTING them. I may not be the champion anymore, but you want to challenge me only do so if you’re ready to fight me. Donovan Kayl challenged me. He wants some. So get ready Berlin, because on Breakdown this week he’s going to get some,” she says, grinning happily before nodding her head. “Still though, there’s that unanswered question of ‘why’. Why does Donovan want to fight me? I think I know why. The same reason that so many jump me from behind, right? The same reason so many try to lure me into fights. He wants to beat me in the middle of the ring and make a statement. He wants to beat a former five-time World Champion in the middle of the ring. And I’m up for that. I can respect that. Because a few years ago I was the one making challenges and trying to face the best to prove that I belonged. Donovan wants to do exactly that you’re damn right I’m going to give him the chance to prove it. So, that’s what this match is about, right? It’s about Donovan Kayl getting a chance to prove he’s on Syren’s level… right? Well… no. There’s a lot more to it than that.”
She laughs. “How self-absorbed would I be if I actually believed that that’s what this was all about? I’m not that self-absorbed. Because as much as this match, for Donovan, is a chance to beat a former five-time World Champion and cement a position amongst the top contenders of the company today, this match for me is about beating one of the top contenders of this company today, a man on a roll and talked about by everyone across the globe, and reminding everyone why I am a former five-time World Champion, and a top contender myself,” she says with a nod and another smile. “And that’s what I intend to do this week on Breakdown. I didn’t accept Donovan’s challenge for him. I accepted it for me. Because when someone like him makes a challenge like that, when someone like him gives me a chance to break away from all the bullshit, all the distractions, all the craziness with Past, Present, Future, and get down to what I love doing more than anything else – competing in the middle of that ring, putting on a show, and proving why I’m worthy of that title that CHBK bestowed on me last week – there is absolutely no way I’m going to do anything but accept. And now we’re here. Now the match is set. Now the people are talking about who’s going to come out the winner. They’re talking about what Donovan has to prove. Hell, Donovan is probably talking about what Donovan has to prove. So let me tell you what I’m going to prove this Wednesday, shall I?”
She smirks. “It was recently announced that in a few weeks Jake Starr is going to cash in his Trios Contract for one of the most insane matches I’ve ever heard of, and for the chance to leave the Wells Fargo Arena as the SCW World Heavyweight Champion. Well, that means that either Jake or Alistaire Allocco are headed to Salt Lake City with that belt, and you know what? I’d like to be waiting for them. Not going to lie, that’s where I want to be. Will it happen? Probably not, but a girl can hope, right?” she asks before smirking again. “Also, in that same match in Des Moines, Jake Starr has a chance to leave as the SCW United States Champion. That means either him or Regan Street could be going to Salt Lake City with the SCW United States Championship. Now there is NOTHING I would like more in Salt Lake City than to kick Regan Street’s teeth down her throat, but if she’s not the SCW United States Champion then she’ll be itching for a rematch… and so am I. So, what do I have to prove this Wednesday night? I have to prove that I deserve those kinds of chances. I have to prove that I’m good enough to be in either one of those conversations. I have to show that I’m not just the girl who accepts the challenges, I’m the girl who steps up, accepts the challenges from the best and goes on to BEAT them in the middle of the ring. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what I’ll be looking to prove this week in Berlin. Donovan Kayl wants a chance to fight me. That’s great, because I want a chance to fight him, I want a chance to take on one of the hottest talents in the company today, and remind him, remind SCW management, remind every single fan in Berlin and across the world why I am the BEST FEMALE WRESTLER IN THE WORLD, and damn proud of it.”
She smiles again before nodding her head. “This video began with a message of thanks. It’s going to end with one. Thank you, Donovan. Thank you for being unlike so many others. Thank you for being a man. Thank you for issuing challenges, rather than lowering yourself to the levels that many consider aspirational. They’re not. You should aspire to being far more than a weasel. Donovan does. I do too. So thank you, Donovan, for making this challenge. Thank you for the opportunity to fight you. And, in advance, I’m sorry… because this week I know what a victory would mean to you, but you have to know that I’m going to give every last bit of energy I have to beat you, to leave that ring with my theme playing loudly, and to remind every single person watching that I’m in the conversation when it comes to contenders because week in and week out I’m one of the best. I don’t have a title belt right now. I do have a title I’m working on. It’s not ‘Best Female Wrestler in the World’. It’s not ‘Former Five-Time World Champion’. It’s simpler than that. It’s ‘Legend’. It’s a title I’ve always wanted. So thank you, Donovan, for giving me another chance to earn it. And guys? Enjoy this week. Enjoy this match. I know I will,” she says before grinning and holding her hand to her chest before nodding at the camera. “I’ll see you in the middle of the ring, Donovan. This is going to be fun. It’s a chance for the two of us to prove what we can do, and a chance for me to step up in front of the world and prove, once again, that you can knock me down, you can trip me up, but every time I come back hard, and I prove in the end, despite it all, I am UNSTOPPABLE!”
She blows a kiss at the camera. “See you guys in a few hours,” she says before looking around. “Hmm, now I should probably figure out the time and get some sleep, huh?”
With that she walks out of shot of the camera again as the scene slowly fades to black. The video ends then with the replay button flashing up on the screen.
