The video begins and we see an American flag and a Texas flag hanging side by side in front of the camera. The camera stays focused on the two flags for a long moment before we hear the voice of Syren from behind the camera. “Ok, is it only me who feels like right now I should be in Hollywood telling you that the whole place is filled with phoneys?” she asks before laughing. “Wait, that doesn’t work. I guess if I really want to go parody Kennedy Street I should go find a stripper pole, I mean we all know that that’s where she’s most at home, don’t we? But no, that’s not my style. I’m not going to reduce myself to the level of another bitch that wants the world to believe she’s the best thing out there and nobody else compares. Instead I’m going to welcome you to Houston, Texas. It’s Saturday afternoon, we are about twenty-eight hours away from the start of Retribution, and I find myself having fulfilled all my commitments for the day but one, and that’s to talk to you guys. Been waiting all day to do this as well. And unlike some pay per view weekends I’ve actually had a pretty good day today. Met some cool people, had a lot of fun, but now it’s time to focus on tomorrow because right now Houston, Texas is full of SCW fans who are expecting a show tomorrow night, and I know that I for one am intending on giving them one.”
She laughs and turns the camera on herself. “Before you say anything I know what I said, and I said it on purpose. But we all know that that isn’t my style, don’t we? And guys, you know me by now, right? And Ravyn and me were talking last night and she was writing a letter to all you guys, and it started with a few words that got me thinking. It started with the words ‘we’ve all come a long, long way’. Or something like that. And she’s right, we have. But she’s right in a way that she didn’t even mean. Because guys, we have come a long, long way and we’ve come that distance in a crazy short amount of time. And personally I’m proud of us for that, I’m proud of everyone involved for that, and if we hadn’t then I might still be here today, but it wouldn’t be this that I was putting over my shoulder,” she says as she lifts the SCW World Heavyweight Championship in to view and smiles at the camera again. “No, because if we hadn’t come as far as we have then the title I would be putting on my shoulder right now is the title that rested there for longer than it’s been on the shoulder of anyone else in history. Six hundred and seventy nine days it rested there, in fact. And that title right now rests on the shoulder of Christy Matthews, but if we hadn’t come as far as we’ve come then maybe the SCW Women’s Championship is the best that any of us could have hoped to achieve.”
She looks at the World title and places it over her shoulder, holding it up with her free hand as she doesn’t have the mass for the title to balance there perfectly on it’s own. “Because we all know that this is a man’s world, don’t we? And sports like this – sports in general – have tended to be men’s worlds for a long, long time. That’s the way it’s supposed to be, right? We’re in the kitchen. We make the food. We have the babies. The big, strong, tough manly men are out in the wild hunting us food and building us houses and, more than occasionally, beating the hell out of each other either because of something that came between them or for the enjoyment of everyone else who wants to watch it. That’s the way the world once worked, back when women couldn’t vote, when we were burned at the stake for having individual thoughts because clearly we were witches, and when it was actually weirdly kind of acceptable that there were women who would sell themselves to those who’d pay,” she says, shrugging her shoulders. “I don’t know. I’m not a history expert. But I do know that there was a time a long time ago when we weren’t considered equals. Hell, we weren’t even close. Then that started to change. There was women’s suffrage, right? The campaign for the vote! Trail blazing women who stood up and said that we have just as much right as any man to make decisions that affect us.”
“The world started to change. Women got powerful. Some wanted to take it a little too far, in my opinion. There are some who get crazy over the whole issue of feminism. I’m not really sure that I’m crazy into that whole side of things, but I agree absolutely with the principles. See I think I have just as much right as anyone else to get everything equal. I don’t want more. I don’t want anything unfair. And there’s some stuff that I think guys should get that women already do, like I think paternity leave is an awesome idea. But no, what I’ve always wanted is simply equal. And it’s not just men and women that I think should be equal either. You guys have all seen this, right?” she askes, holding her left hand up to the camera and nodding toward her wedding ring. “That wasn’t put there by a guy, I’ll tell you that much. So that’s wrong, right? It shouldn’t be there. Damn those lesbians, they’re destroying the world by… being in love with each other? Yah, because God hates people who love each other and want to spend their lives together, everyone knows that. But seriously, I am all about equality in everything, and I would never tell a damn person that they don’t deserve something that they’ve put the work in for because they’re different in some way to me. That’s not what I’m about. Because when that idea gets out there, when people take that seriously, then the ones who are different are rounded up and… well, I have issues even talking about that subject.”
She shakes her head slowly and lets out a sigh before trying to move on from it. “Now there have been a whole ton of trail blazers in the past, women who suffered for suffrage, women who changed the world, but in more recent years there’s been something else that’s become a whole hell of a lot more equal. If you look at SCW today, and you look at the belt on my shoulder right now, and you think of the title reigns of Kelcey Wallace, Christy Matthews, Regan Street and Katie Steward, then it would probably be pretty crazy for you think that three years ago at the event that we’re heading in to was the first pay per view ever in SCW history to be headlined by a female holding the top title in the business. Her name was Katie Steward, and on February 15th 2012 she didn’t just knock on the glass ceiling, she shattered it,” she says, nodding her head with respect. “Everyone knows Katie and me don’t get along. Everyone knows I’ve had a long history with her dating back pretty much to the day I walked through the door. We fought a whole bunch of times. I’ve won some. She’s won some. But that date, February 15th 2012, was the date that she changed the game. And it’s thanks to her that I’m wearing this title right now. It’s thanks to her that Rise to Greatness happened the way it did last year. It’s thanks to what she did then, and a whole hell of a lot of work by me, that for two hundred and twenty three days today I’ve been the SCW Heavyweight Champion of the World, longer than anyone else.”
“And I know that Katie didn’t do it on her own, but she’s the one who did do it. She’s the one who set the standard. And after her came those others, came Christy Matthews, came Syren, came Regan Street and came Kelcey Wallace, and after them women like Brittany Lohan, Rachel Foxx and Kennedy Street were in the position they were in because of that. They got to challenge for the richest prize in this business because of those people who made it happen. And today I get to say that I am the Best Female Wrestler in the World, and SECOND TO NO MAN, because of them. And for every day that I’ve held title, even for every day that I’ve not been champion, I’ve been busting my ass to make damn sure that there is NOBODY in this business anymore who looks at me, or any other woman, and tells us EVER again that we CAN’T headline the biggest events, that we CAN’T sell out arenas, that we CAN’T write our names in the history books even above the greatest competitors of all time because I know damn sure that we CAN,” she says with pride and passion and enthusiasm. “And guys, I’m living proof of it. And I have another message for everyone else. We don’t need to be beauty queens, we don’t need to be fashion models, and we don’t need a hundred thousand guys drooling over us to feel validated. All we need to do is be proud of ourselves.”
She takes a deep breath and lets out a laugh. “So guys, I’m not telling you this stuff to waste my breath, I’m telling you all this stuff because this is important, ok? Because I’ve mentioned a few names already – Regan Street, Christy Matthews, Katie Steward, Rachel Foxx, Brittany Lohan, and Kelcey Wallace – who have all been at the top or challenged at the top and they all have something in common. They fought their way there. They proved to the world that they were JUST as tough, or TOUGHER, than any man. And then there’s one name that I’ve mentioned who’s gotten to the top of this business who is, without a shadow of a doubt, doing more to undermine that than even Jonathan Knots does when he views us as objects he should ogle instead of fighters he should respect, and her name is Kennedy Street,” she says before shaking her head and letting out another sigh. “You’ve heard the things she’s been telling you guys, right? You’ve seen the things she’s done. She’s twenty-eight hours away from the biggest show of her life, from the biggest match of her life, from the biggest opportunity of her life, and she’s spent the last few days telling you guys that I’m not good enough because… I’ve had relationships that didn’t work? I’m not good enough because… I grew up in Long Beach? I’m not good enough because… my dad isn’t a good enough doctor for her? Like, seriously, I’m not making this shit up. This is actually her argument ahead of tomorrow.”
“She wants to talk about my life. She wants to put it under a microscope. She’s hoping to embarrass me by talking all about my past, only she’s got a small problem – you guys know about my past already. Seriously, has she so far told you guys anything about me that I’ve not talked to you guys about myself? You guys know about my relationship with Lucas. You guys know that CHBK told the world about it. You guys know I had an affair with a married man. You guys also know that I’ve teamed with his ex-wife a few times now, that we’re weirdly in this place that we’re kind of friends, that she’s mentored one of my very best friends in the world, and hell we even stood alongside each other in the ring during the whole war against New Eden last year. So you guys know about that. You know the mistakes I’ve made. I’ve not tried to hide them, and I’m damn sure not embarrassed by them,” she says before laughing again. “I’ve heard her talking and guys, you know me, I’ve laughed. A lot! In fact I’ve heard ALL the talking. So much talking! I know that tomorrow night she thinks she’s going to beat me and take the title from me not because she’s a better wrestler than me, not because she’s overcome more challenges than I have, not because she’s fought the best competition on the planet and overcome, or because she’s even necessarily earned her way in to this title match, but because she’s… prettier than me?”
She laughs again. “Is that it? Did I get it? That’s why she’s going to beat me? She’s prettier than me, she has more friends than me, and they all love her so very much. Hell, even her enemies love her more than they love me, and she wants you guys to know about that as well. Who have we had recently, Donovan Kayl telling the world that he wants her to win? Taylor Chase telling the world all about Kennedy. Kelcey Wallace telling the world how amazing Kennedy is. Oh, and Dawn Lohan sucking up to her all over again. But then we know that Dawn has no spine, she’s proven that, so let’s discount that,” she says, rolling her eyes again. “So, I’ve got exciting news, I’ve gone out and I’ve got a whole bunch of people I’ve faced, and a whole bunch of my friends, and even Tom the Popcorn Vendor, to come and tell you how amazing I am and that I’m going to win. Isn’t that exciting? You ready guys, because that… is clearly not going to happen. If you thought I was serious then you’re a bigger idiot than she is. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, I don’t need a thousand people in my corner. I don’t need the praise of the locker room. I could not give a damn who Kelcey Wallace thinks is better in the ring. Because I know that I am, and this Sunday I’m not going to win because I’m prettier or because I spend the most time retweeting people, I’m going to win because I’m going to drop her on her smug, arrogant face. Believe that, ‘honey’.”
“And guys, your number one contender wants you to know that she’s awesome, she’s sexy, she’s flawless – apparently – and that the most important thing in this business is exposure, so that’s why she exposes herself every chance she gets,” she says before laughing again. “She’ll wrestle naked, right? That makes her awesome. That makes her the best ever. No, it doesn’t. That means that she’s single-handedly sending us backwards. Katie Steward, a woman I’m ashamed to say that I’ve compared Kennedy to the past, which was a mistake on my part because Katie actually has class, broke the glass ceiling and set us on an even playing field. Since then we’ve been proving to the world that women in this business can compete. We’ve been proving that women in this business can overcome. We’ve been proving that women in this business can be FIGHTERS, can be WARRIORS, can be CHAMPIONS, and Kennedy Street wants to be a stripper. I’ve been in this business five and a half years, this COMPANY five and a half years, breaking boundaries, setting records, fighting for EVERYTHING I HAVE, and she thinks she deserves it more because she likes to take her clothes off. ‘But honey, it’s publicity honey, and it’s awesome honey, and, honey—’ this is seriously the same woman who told you that MY accent was unacceptable. SoCal girl, proud of it, being told she’s not good enough by a woman with the weirdest case of OCD I have seen in my life. I knew a guy in high school who had to turn the light on and off ten times when he was last out of a room. Is that the same thing, where she has to hit a certain number of ‘honeys’ per promo?”
She shrugs and rolls her eyes. “Whatever, I don’t care. And that’s actually the best part about this, because for all the times she’s whined and complained that she should get a shot at this belt I’ve never cared before, and after I beat her this Sunday I’ll never care again. She can go back to talking to you all about how flawless she is, and she’ll have to do it with the imprint of my fist squarely in the middle of her ‘sexy, flawless’ forehead,” she says before laughing. “And I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, I don’t doubt that she has the talent to be one of the best in the business. I don’t doubt that she has the ability. Even if I did doubt it oh look here come another four people telling me all about it, yay, but I don’t think she has the commitment, I don’t think she has the attitude, and I know damn well she doesn’t have the desire. She wants us to know about her history, right? NWE, or SQF, or wherever the fuck else she’s running her mouth about – I know the names guys, before you go correcting me, I’m just proving a point here – where she wants us to know she did this, or she faced that person, and how nobody has heard of those people she fought for the last three years, right? Well I hadn’t heard of them before then either. Do you know who I have heard of? David Helms. Jake Starr. Lucas Knight. Tommy Valentine. Shilo Valiant. Shaun Cruze. Katie Steward. Regan Street. Marina Trent. Kelcey Wallace. Do you what they have in common, honey? I’ve beaten them all. And this Sunday I’m adding another name to the list.”
She smiles at the camera again. “You don’t need to believe me Kennedy. In fact it’s better if you don’t. But in all your ranting about me, in all your determination to put me down, there’s one thing you said that is very true. You’re not Syren. And that’s why this Sunday I’m walking out still the SCW World Heavyweight Champion. So talk about my dad. Talk about Lucas. Talk about David. Talk about Regan. I had a high school boyfriend named Robbie; you could talk about him a little if you wanted to? Do your best to embarrass me. Tell everyone who’ll listen that I’m not good enough to be where I am. The ones who believe you fine, they can believe you, but the ones who matter know that I’ve worked my ass off to get this title, that I’ve worked my ass off to retain this title, that I’ve worked my ass off to further everything that I believe in, and there is not a damn thing that you or anyone you can get to praise you can do to ever take that away from me,” she says to the camera with a cold determination before sliding the SCW World title off her shoulder and holding it up in front of the camera. “This is what it’s all about Kennedy, and we’ve come a long, long way, haven’t we? We’ve got here in very different ways. We’re damn sure two very different people. And maybe, underneath it all, you’re as good as people say you are. Maybe you’re even better than I think. But sweetie, from everything I’ve seen the last few weeks there isn’t ‘fifty shades of Keenie’, Kennedy Street only comes in one colour, and she’s yellow. But this Sunday, I intend to make her green. ‘It is the green-eyed monster which doth mock the meat it feeds on’. I love Shakespeare. If you didn’t get that, what it breaks down to is this: at Retribution, Kennedy, JUST BE JEALOUS!”
She holds the World title up to the camera again before taking a deep breath and smiling at the camera again. She pulls it in close and kisses the lens before focusing it on the World title once again as we fade out on that image, and once the video comes to an end the replay button flashes up on the screen.
