The video begins and we see the inside of a hotel room, presumably in Chicago, Illinois. The camera focuses on a shot of one of the FFW Unity Championship titles and slowly pans out to show the title around the waist of one half of the FFW Unity Champions, Ms Ravyn Taylor. As the camera continues panning out we find that she’s not alone, joined by Syren. Both are dressed in Dark Fantasy merchandise and Syren has her Unity Championship title over her shoulder as the two smile at the camera. “It feels like a while since we’ve done this,” Ravyn begins, laughing as she does so. “In fact it has been a little while, hasn’t it? It’s been a little while since Dark Fantasy competed in FFW. It’s been a little while since your Unity Tag Team Champions got into the FFW ring, but while we’ve been missing a few weeks we’ve not forgotten. It’s hard to forget when you have a purpose, no matter what other craziness is going on in your life.”
“Oh my god, don’t even talk about the crazy going on in our lives right now,” Syren says, rolling her eyes and letting out a sigh. “I swear the last few weeks for us have been so incredibly stressful, from false stories about me to family issues that made the newspapers – I guess that’s what happens when your dad decides he wants to be a politician, huh? Well we all know how I felt about that – to stories about the two of us that are actually a lot truer than most that are printed. We’ve had a crazy few weeks and the status quo of our lives has changed pretty dramatically, but tomorrow night we get a chance to step away from the controversy, we get a chance to step away from the drama, we get a chance to take our personal lives and put them to one side and step in to the ring in the middle of the sold out United Center and whatever your personal feelings about the two of us – whether you still mistrust us, whether you still want to criticise us inside the ring, whether you have a strong opinion about our choices outside of it, or whether you’re just looking to be entertained – they won’t matter tomorrow night. All that matters tomorrow night is that Dark Fantasy take another step to doing everything we promised we’d do.”
Ravyn nods her head in agreement. “We did make a promise when the year started out. We promised that we’d capture the FFW Unity Championships. We promised that we’d become champions and that we’d prove ourselves as champions. Well, we did the first part already, you’ve already seen that for yourself, but true champions know that it’s never as simple as just wearing the title belts. Oh no, true champions know that in order to stay at the top you need to forever test yourself. True champions know that in order to further your status, in order to establish yourself not as champions of the moment but truly worthy champions who’ll be remembered as such, then you must continuously step up to the challenges ahead, and you must overcome them,” she says with a grin on her face. “So that’s why the two of us are so very excited to be stepping in to the ring in Chicago for a rescheduled contest that we’re eagerly anticipating. You see we’ve been watching very closely. Every week we’ve been watching the tag teams in FFW competing. Every week we’ve been scouting the competition. Every week we’ve been seeing the best and brightest fight in THE MOST COMPETITIVE tag team division in professional wrestling right now, and tomorrow night we get to prove why we’re at the top of it.”
“Now I won’t lie guys, I was super hyped when I saw the card for Velocity two weeks ago,” Syren says with a disappointed look on her face. “You know any time you get to compete in your home town, any time you get to compete in front of your friends and your family it’s always special, and two weeks ago the thought of stepping in to the ring in the middle of the Staples Center and showing the world what Dark Fantasy was all about in a building that I love more than any other that we visit – no offence guys, but you know, my home town and all and I’ve been in there to watch so many amazing events over the years, including the Kings triumphing last year, which sucks that they didn’t even make the playoffs this year but totally not the point right now – was all truly exciting to me. But stuff happens, you know? The match got rescheduled. And now, two weeks later, we get the chance to step up against the same team, Rudo Galactica, one of the most talked about teams in this company, and we get to prove ourselves against them. That’s what’s happening this week because we know what’s on the line this week. It’s true that the Unity Championships themselves aren’t on the line, it’s true that no matter what happens in this one we’re still walking out with the titles and heading to New Orleans to defend them at Relentless, but we also know that it’s not as simple as that.”
“Long have the two of us held the simple belief that in this business the way you get to the top is by proving yourself,” Ravyn explains, unclipping the Unity title from around her waist and holding it up to the camera instead. “Long have we held that belief, and on the night we won these championships we did exactly that. But we also know that a win over a champion, even in a non-title contest, is exactly how you prove yourself. It’s long been the understanding amongst all competitors that when you beat a champion you put yourself in line for a title match, and Rudo Galactica are already right near the front of that line, aren’t they? Zoe’s exactly right, they’re one of the most talked about teams in this company. They’re right at the top of the contendership list. And this week on Velocity they’ll be looking to go one step further, to knock off Dark Fantasy and bank themselves a shot at the titles in the future, no matter who’s holding them. Now we both know that they’re more than capable of doing exactly that. We both know that this week one slip up, one mistake and it could see one of us hoisted up in the air and dropped to that mat. We both know that one mistake and the hungry Mexican duo will be right on our tails. But we also know that this week another victory takes us another step toward where we want to be.”
Syren nods her head enthusiastically. “It totally does,” she says happily. “You guys know where we want to be as well, don’t you? Last year we felt like outsides. Last year we felt like nobodies. Last year we felt like no matter how hard we worked we were forever going to be seen separate, that we weren’t a true part of this company, and this year we’ve set about changing that. This year we’ve been climbing the cards. This year we’ve been making impact after impact. This year we’ve been ready and willing to take on any challenge – singles, doubles or trios we don’t care – to establish ourselves not just as Unity champions, not just as a part of the roster, not just as two familiar faces, but as a core part of FFW. We want to continue climbing the cards. We want to continue progressing toward the top. We want the fans in every arena that FFW visits to want to see Dark Fantasy in action, to get excited about Dark Fantasy showing up, and we want every single woman on this roster to know that when they see they’re facing Syren, Ravyn Taylor, or Dark Fantasy that they’re in for one of the fights of the night. And this week THAT’S what Rudo Galactica is in for because this week we take to the ring and we take on one of the craziest, most wild, most talked about commodities in this business, and we win.”
“Now to be completely honest, which I like to try to be, I didn’t think much of the team when I first laid eyes on them,” Ravyn says, shaking her head slowly. “We like to keep an eye on the competition, we always try not to judge a book by it’s cover, but when we heard there was a duo on Future Shock who were impossible to handle, who were annoying so many, and who were causing trouble everywhere they went then I’ll admit I dismissed them, at first. When I heard they were Mexicans who claimed to be superior to ‘non-Mexicans’ I couldn’t help but scoff and roll my eyes. You know that while I may not be the most patriotic of individuals, I may not wave a flag on a daily basis and I may be amongst the first to criticise American foreign policy and spending, I am still very proud to be an American. We showed that recently, in fact, when we took on the Canadian duo of ‘In Canada We Trust’ and overcame them in a hard fought contest. And when I heard that they had a pet donkey they’ve called Obama, while mildly amused, I found myself somewhat insulted as well. I considered them nothing more than a joke team that I thought would disappear. Then I took a closer look and I realised how wrong I was. It’s not often that I’m willing to admit that I’m wrong, but in the case of Stardust and Meteora I’m willing to admit that I was.”
Syren laughs and nods her head. “Now I’m a little bit more patriotic. I’m the first one to celebrate on July 4th. I’m the first one to defend our country against all the criticisms that we get from all the different guys and girls who come here looking to make an impact, looking to make money, looking to take advantage of everything we have to offer, and claiming to be superior to us all. That kind of stuff insults me, you know? It insults me because I don’t go to Mexico and show them disrespect. I go to Mexico and I respect the hell out of them. I go to Canada and I respect the hell out of them. I go to England and I respect the hell out of them. And yet so many of them come here and they insult us and that offends me,” she says honestly before shaking her head. “So when I heard about Rudo Galactica I was offended. When I heard about Obama the donkey I was offended. And yet when I saw them in action, when I saw what those two girls can do, when I saw the Supernova, a freaking 810 splash, one of the most incredible things I’ve EVER seen, I couldn’t help but respect the hell out of them. And honestly, they deserve it. They deserve it because they can do things in that ring that Ravyn and me can only dream about. But we can do things in that ring that they can only dream about as well!”
Ravyn smiles in agreement. “It’s true. We may not be as quick as them, and while Zoe can take to the air with the best of them I’ll freely admit that when it comes to twisting and flipping I’m far from an expert. But do you want to know what I am an expert in? Using that twisting and flipping against an opponent,” she says with an almost evil smirk forming on her face. “You see there’s a reason that I’ve had the success I’ve had, and it’s that I learn everything there is to learn about my opponents. Before I step in to the ring each week I ensure that I know what they’re going to do before they do. And as impressive as it is to see someone like Meteora flip off the top rope and deliver the Meteor Shower it’s difficult for someone like Meteora to do that when she’s lying on the mat struggling to breathe. And as anyone who’s watched our matches will attest, I don’t need to fly through the air to take down an opponent. I don’t need to climb to the top rope to make an impact. I can make just as much of an impact on an opponent simply by driving their face in to both of my knees. And as so many around here can already attest it’s very difficult to continue flipping about, it’s impossible in fact to brag about your supremacy, when you’re lying on your back unconscious pondering the true meaning of Evolutionary Synthesis.”
Syren laughs. “It totally is. It’s impossible to do a lot of things in fact when you step in to the ring against one of the most cohesive teams in the world, a duo who know how to work for each other, a duo who’ve worked together for a very long time and a duo who’d give anything for each other,” she says, smiling at Ravyn briefly before turning back to the camera. “You guys know our story by now, right? If you’ve picked up a tabloid recently you know more than that. You’ve seen what’s happened when teams have told us that we’re not ‘unified’ enough. And just like all the others who we’ve fought since winning these titles Rudo Galactica think they know us. They think we’re going to overlook them. They think we’re going to look past them and focus on the One Woman Show at Relentless. They think we don’t respect them but they couldn’t be more wrong. They think we don’t know them but the truth is that they don’t know us. I mean, did they actually think I was British? Seriously, do I sound British to you?”
Ravyn smirks at her. “You do have an amusing British accent.”
“I know, my British accent rocks,” Syren agrees excitedly. “But I’m not allowed to do it any more because Alexander gets all offended. I swear he’s like so sensitive sometimes…”
Ravyn can’t help but laugh before she shakes her head slowly. “Bless him,” she says lovingly before looking more focused as she looks back to the camera. “But the fact is that they can play their little games, they can tell their little jokes, they can bring their donkey to the ring – that sounds like it should be a euphemism but it’s weird that it isn’t – and in the end it won’t make any difference. This week Dark Fantasy have something else to prove. This week we’re walking in to Chicago, we’re holding these titles high above our heads, and we’re beating one of the most talked about tag teams in FFW today. This week on Velocity we’re proving ourselves all over again and the wonder girls from Mexico get to learn a lesson. We’re not the Witches Brew, there are no seeds to sow between the two of us, and this week on Velocity our neighbours from the south discover that there are some ‘non-Mexicans’ that they should think twice about before assuming their superiority, and they sometimes speed and agility can make an impact, and sometimes it can fall short when you’re faced with a Bad, Bad Girl.”
“We’ve been waiting two weeks for this, and we may be all smiles right now but tomorrow night we’ll be all action. Tomorrow night we walk in to Chicago and we show the world why we are the FFW Unity Champions. Tomorrow night in the United Center we steal the show and we show what tag team wrestling in FFW is all about. Two of the top teams, two of the hungriest teams, two of the best teams in this company go two on two and in the end Dark Fantasy stand in victory,” she promises before smiling again happily. “You see I may be really good at causing myself problems in my personal life, so much so that I’m afraid to go on social media right now because I can’t deal with the backlash that comes from it all, but tomorrow night I intend to show I’m also really good at causing every opponent troubles in that ring. Tomorrow night we gain momentum ahead of Relentless. Tomorrow night we prove why we are the Unity Champions. And tomorrow night Rudo Galactica fall as we STAND TALL in that ring, and we leave them with no choice but to BE TOTALLY JEALOUS!”
She kisses her hand and blows the kiss at the camera. Both women then hold up the Unity Championships proudly before the video fades out and comes to an end with the replay button flashing up on the screen.
