The video begins and we see a large banner hanging from a ceiling that reads ‘HAPPY NEW YEAR 2015’. The camera focuses on the banner for a moment before panning out and revealing a table underneath the banner on top of which sits an End of Year trophy marked clearly with ‘Female of the Year 2015’ alongside the SCW World Heavyweight Championship belt, which is fastened together and standing upright. The camera focuses on both of these things for a moment before we see a hand reach in to the shot and pick up the award. The camera pans out more to reveal that the hand belongs to the award winner, a very proud looking Syren, who smiles at the camera and looks down at the trophy and then up at the camera again. “Ok, so before I talk about anything else — and there is so much to talk about right now that I don’t even think I’m going to get it all in to this video — I want to start with this. I want to start by saying, from the bottom of my heart, to every single person who voted for me, thank you. Honestly, you really have no idea how much this means to me,” she says, looking at the award again before smiling at the camera once more. “Now I know that this isn’t the first year for me. This is actually the fourth time. The fourth time in five years. And a lot of people might think that it’s just one of those things now, one of those things that you get used to, one of those things that doesn’t mean anything to someone who’s won it four times in five years but anyone who thinks that couldn’t be more wrong. Because winning this award is something that I’d never take for granted.”

She holds up the award proudly. “This award means SO much to me, the fact that you guys have voted for me four years now means EVERYTHING to me, and it means even more when you think about the level of competition there is today. Now it’s not like there didn’t used to be competition. I’ve won this award in the past ahead of girls like Marina Trent, who busted her ass in the Women’s division, ahead of girls I’ve called friends like Holly Adams, Maddie McTaggert and Ravyn Taylor, and even ahead of the most accomplished female competitor in SCW history, Katie Steward. But this year especially the competition has been INSANE. This year not only is Katie still working her way toward officially becoming the first female to win every belt — an accomplishment that may not actually be matched — but there’s also been girls like Kelcey Wallace, the Taking Hold of the Flame winner who started off 2014 with the World title, girls like Regan Street who’s main evented pay per views and won the number one contendership tournament, there’s been girls like Selena Frost, a former Adrenaline and World Tag Team Champion this year, and that’s only scratching the surface of a year full of INCREDIBLE accomplishments for women in this business! 2014 was, without doubt, the year of WOMEN dominating in SCW, and so to think that you guys voted for me ahead of all of those girls, ahead of the most successful year yet for women in SCW, where we showed the world that there is no glass ceiling in this business for us anymore, means SO much to me that I can’t even put it in to words.”

She looks genuinely emotional and thankful. “Seriously guys, I don’t know what else to say other than thank you, and I promise that just like before I’m going to make sure that i’m worthy of this award because 2014 may be over but 2015 is only just beginning, and if we had the biggest year yet for women in SCW in 2014 then I promise you 2015 is going to be EVEN BIGGER! Who knows, maybe this year will be the year that every title is held simultaneously by a woman? It almost happened in 2014… damn that James Evans,” she says with a grin before blowing a kiss to the camera and putting the award back down on the table, grabbing the SCW World Championship instead and unbuckling it before placing it over her shoulder. “And now I’ve spoken about that then there’s something else I need to speak about as well and that’s this. That’s the End of Year Special, that’s my match against Chris Cannon and also a little mind game or two against the would-be World Champion who managed to get Jake Starr and me back on the same page once again. Now everyone knows it takes a lot to get Jake and me to see eye to eye, but 2014 was the year that that happened a crazy amount. Hell we saw eye to eye so many times in 2014 that people might actually start to think we’re becoming friends. And on the final day of 2014 we had something else in common as well, and that was a desire to show Kennedy Street that she’s not the only one who can play games around here, and that there isn’t anyone on this roster who can do whatever they want whenever they want without there being serious repercussions.”

“Kennedy thinks she owns the place. She thinks she can get away with murder, and why? Because in her deluded mind everyone loves her and should worship her, and in her deluded mind that means she can get away with what she did to Jake, that means she can get away with what she’s threatened to do to me, that means she can get away with her childish fits, her constant whining and her absolute refusal to prove that she deserves anything. And as you saw at the End of Year Special I’m not the only one who’s tired of it all. So we decided to get together and teach her a lesson, and we had a bit of fun doing it. Now I’m sorry I misled you guys, but you’ve got to admit that you loved seeing her throwing a temper tantrum as much as we did, right?” she asks before laughing and rolling her eyes. “But while I may have been willing to troll Kennedy Street at the End of Year Special one person I intended to give my absolute best to was Chris Cannon, the guy you all voted as the recipient of the End of Year title shot, and the guy I was truly excited to face. And on the night that we saw the fan vote revealed to what your favourite match of 2014 was — thanks for that, by the way, that was totally my favourite too — I think both Chris and I intended to go out there and steal the show and put on the best match of 2014 right in Ottawa for all of you guys. Unfortunately that wasn’t what happened in the end, and we have the same old group of douche-bags to thank for that, don’t we? Because rather than the match be the single best of 2014 it turned into one of the busiest, most interfered with matches of 2014, all hell broke loose, Silas World got involved, Kelcey Wallace and Shaun Cruze got involved, and in the end I ended up capitalising in a way that I never would have intentionally.”

She looks apologetically toward the camera. “If I’d wanted the match to end in chaos, if I’d wanted the match to end in controversy, if I’d wanted to retain the title in the worst possible way then there are so many different things that would have gone down last Wednesday night, but Chris I promise you that that was never my intention. I tried my best to keep it fair, I tried to help you when I could, I made sure that Harmony Fisher wouldn’t be a factor in costing you the title but in the end… I’m sorry. There was so much going on and… I’m sorry about what happened, ok? I’m sorry that you had to lose the match that way. I’m sorry that those asshats had to come out and try and take it from you. I know how important those kinds of opportunities are, I know how hard we all work for them and I’m genuinely sorry from the bottom of my heart that things had to end the way they did but if I know one thing for certain, if last Wednesday night proved one thing to me, it’s that this isn’t the end for Chris Cannon,” she says with certainty. “Those people voted for you for a reason Chris, and once you’ve taken care of business, once you’ve gotten rid of Silas Mason and Silas World from your life once and for all I know you’ll be back, I know you’ll be fighting for this title again, and when you are I for one will be cheering you on sweetie. Well, I’ll be cheering you on as long as I’m not the one you’re facing, obviously. That would be awkward otherwise, wouldn’t it? But joking aside I know how you feel, but I also know that you’re not going to let this break you. You CAN’T let this break you.”

She takes a deep breath, as though those words were a segue almost too fitting for her. “So that brings us to the end of 2014, that brings us to the end of one of the most exciting, one of the most daring, one of the most incredible years in the history of SCW, the year that girl power took charge, the year that rewrote the history books for so many things, and it brings us to the start of 2015, a brand new year with a whole load of potential ahead of us as we walk the path toward another Rise to Greatness, but first and foremost we walk the path toward the first pay per view event of the year, the awesomely named ‘Jealousy’. And it’s a great name for a pay per view, it’s a great name for any event considering how much of an impact jealousy has in all of our lives. I mean we’ve all felt it, right? Anyone who says they haven’t is a liar,” she says before laughing a little. “I mean, you guys already know that I’ve felt the sting of jealousy in the worst possible way. I spoke about it all in depth before. And this week I’m almost forced to relive so many of those feelings again because this week we kick off 2015 with a pay per view quality main event match free for the world on Breakdown. This is the kind of match that you guys would pay fifty dollars to see headline a pay per view — the kind of match you DID pay to see headline a pay per view back at Under Attack — but this week Breakdown is offering it to you for free. Now if that isn’t a late Christmas present for you guys I don’t know what is, right?”

“This is a match with everything. This is a match with history. This is a match with a professional rivalry so intense, but more than that this is a match with a personal rivalry that goes way beyond intense. And I could sit here and I could tell you the full story, I could talk all over again about our history, I could talk about Regan’s history in the Women’s division that paralleled my own, I could talk about her meteoric rise through the rankings in SCW faster than almost anyone else before her, I could talk about the countless Breakdown’s she’s headlined, I could talk about the multiple pay per views she’s headlined, I could talk about all the success of one of the most successful competitors in SCW and a woman who knows that there is almost nobody on the roster who wouldn’t trade places with her, there is almost nobody on the roster who wouldn’t have killed to have the chances she’s had, the success she’s had and the admiration she’s gotten as a result… but instead I’m going to talk about the far more important factor in all of this, the fact that all of that isn’t enough for her,” she says, shaking her head and letting out a sigh. “Now don’t get me wrong, I appreciate a competitor, I mean everything that she’s been through in that ring, everything that she’s fought for, everything that she’s dreamt about I can completely relate to because I’ve fought those exact same challenges and I’ve had those exact same dreams. I already said how Regan’s career in the Women’s division paralleled mine but in truth her whole career has to some extent. There is nobody in this company who is more like me than Regan Street is, and I’ve already found out that that’s not necessarily a good thing.”

She laughs a little and shakes her head. “See, I said our personal rivalry is way beyond intense and it is. We’ve fought over EVERYTHING in the time that Regan’s been a part of this company, from titles to achievements, from stables to role models, and we’ve even fought over a guy,” she says, nodding her head and letting out a sigh. “Now I want you guys to know something, because what I said back in October I meant every word of. I was so jealous of her, I was jealous of how easy things were for her, I was jealous of how many people fell at her feet and worshipped the ground she walked on, and the weekend of Under Attack I was even jealous of the unending number of people who praised her and gave her their support. I don’t think ever in my life have I seen any competitor get more wishes of luck, more people telling them how incredible they are, more people willing them on in the backstage, on social media or anywhere else. It genuinely felt going in to that match that the entire roster was begging for me to lose, that the entire roster was praying that Regan Street would take the title away from me, and I had just the smallest group of people around me who had faith in me. One of them was the only person — THE ONLY PERSON — to wish me luck on social media, and that was my boyfriend. The rest of the roster were begging for me to lose, but Alexander was the one telling me I could win. Now that kind of reaction, that kind of unprecedented adoration for Regan Street, put a ton of pressure on both of us, but not least of all a ton of pressure on me.”

“I went in to that match at Under Attack viewing it as so much more than just a title defence, it was my chance to stop what had been the most one-sided series of personal losses I’ve ever encountered in my life. You’ve got to understand that this is the woman who took my spot on the roster, she took my spot in Pinnacle, she took the admiration of someone I looked up to in CHBK, someone who picked her over me and told the world that she was better than I was, and she also took my boyfriend. Little by little I lost everything to Regan Street, and in the day before our match I had to sit and watch dozens upon dozens of people praising her and wishing her luck and calling her the best thing ever, and I knew on that night there was one thing that I was NOT going to let her take from me, and that was this,” she says, holding up the SCW World Championship and looking at it for a moment before looking back in to the camera. “That was the same weekend that I found out that she was engaged as well. And anyone who’s ever had their heart broken, anyone who’s ever had to live through that level of pain, will tell you how hard it is when you’re forced to confront those feelings, when you’re brought face to face with your ex and the new woman in his life, but just imagine coming face to face with all of that at once, and having that woman trying to take from you the proudest accomplishment of your life. That night at Under Attack was the most emotionally challenging of my entire life, but all the hardship, all the drama, all the pain and all the praise only forced me to work harder, it only forced me to dig down deeper, it only made me BETTER inside that ring, and winning that match at Under Attack had the most unexpected of outcomes… it helped me finally put everything behind me.”

“For so long I was holding on to all those feelings I spoke about last time out. I was holding on to the jealousy, I was holding on to the anger, I was holding on to the betrayal, and in one night I conquered all of that and I finally reached the point that I was ready to move on. I finally reached the point that I was no longer angry every time I saw David and Regan tweeting. I finally reached the point that I no longer felt betrayed. At Under Attack I may have retained the SCW World Heavyweight Championship but what I won on that night was personal closure, and ever since that night I’ve felt so much better… but that doesn’t mean that I don’t still remember every bit of it,” she says, smiling at the camera. “That kind of thing is hard to forget, right? You may wish you could but you don’t forget when you’ve been through all of that, and I haven’t forgotten either, but the last few months I’ve had to sit and listen to a different Regan Street. No longer is it the Regan Street who proclaims herself better than me with no proof, no longer is it the Regan Street who blames everyone but herself for everything that’s ever gone wrong for her, now I’m forced to put up with a whiny, self-depreciating version of the woman and somehow — and I’m not even sure how this is possible — I’m finding that even more annoying. This is a woman who thought she was the best thing ever, and who could find twenty people who’d back her up in less time than it takes to make a cup of coffee, but now she’s a woman who’s making the stupidest of declarations, and they all started on that night as well. They started with the declaration that if she didn’t beat me at Under Attack then she NEVER deserved to hold the World title.”

She looks in to the camera in disbelief, shaking her head slowly. “What?! Seriously, I mean what?! What kind of statement is that? That’s the statement of someone so overconfident that they can’t even admit the possibility of failure, or the statement of someone so arrogant that they believed without doubt that they would beat me because there was no other option. I’ve thought a lot about it since that night and I still don’t know which one it was, but whichever one it was when Regan and I went one on one and I DID beat her it seemed to break something. And it’s like I’ve already said, I understand better than anyone the desire to win. I’ve said some pretty stupid shit over the years as well, but I like to think that I’ve learned from my mistakes. One thing I’ve never done however is make a statement that full of bullshit. I mean I lost to Shilo Valiant at the biggest pay per view in SCW history. We all know that, right? We all remember it. And that was a loss that hurt me more than any other, a loss that almost broke me, but no matter how confident I was going in to that match, no matter how sure of myself I’ve been going in to ANY match, I would NEVER say that ONE LOSS like that could define whether I’m worth of EVER being champion or not,” she says, shaking her head slowly. “That’s because ONE NIGHT in this business, win or lose, doesn’t define you. If ONE NIGHT in this business defined you then my loss to Shilo Valiant would have been a sign that I should hang up my boots. If ONE NIGHT in this business defined you then almost dying at the hands of Rachel Frost — TWICE — would definitely have defined me as someone who could never cut it, right? But that second loss is my ONLY LOSS of 2014. Nobody else pinned me the whole year, and do you know why?”

“I was sure I was going to beat Rachel going in to that match. I had confidence in myself. I had faith in myself. I believed in myself. And when I lost it hurt. It hurt physical — oh man did it hurt physically, I mean I couldn’t even walk properly for like a week after, not even kidding — but it hurt my ego as well. But I didn’t think after that loss that I was NEVER going to headline another show. I didn’t think after that loss that I was NEVER going to get back to the top of the mountain. In fact I thought the opposite. I used that loss to fuel me. I used that loss to push me on. I used that loss to inspire me because if I could survive the Thunderdome with the most vindictive BITCH in the history of this company then I could DAMN SURE survive ANYTHING else. And that was what I took from that loss. It motivated me. It fuelled me. And every time since that I’ve been in that ring I’ve remembered how badly she hurt me, how badly she beat me, and I’ve dug down and I’ve found more strength than anyone knew I had and I’ve overcome and I’ve won,” she says with pride. “Do you want to know why I’m telling you this Regan? Because you could do the same damn thing, but you don’t. Instead you’ve gone in to ultimate pity mode. There was a time when you wouldn’t shut up about how much you deserved a one on one match for the World title, and now rather than fighting for that dream, rather than fighting to get back there, rather than fighting to prove yourself, you whine about how you weren’t good enough, you bitch about how much I’ve taken from you, and you wallow in self-pity.”

“It’s more than just self-pity though, isn’t it? Because the woman who once proved she didn’t need ANYONE to help her now needs Silas Mason to get her back to the top? Fucking seriously? You know this is the same guy who basically ruined Kelcey Wallace’s career, right? I mean before Silas Mason, Kelcey Wallace was overcoming monsters and reigning as the World Champion. Silas comes along and she fails to beat Shaun Cruze, she loses to you and Shaun in a triple threat, and is subsequently banned from getting a rematch because of him. But he’s the guy who’s going to help you?” she asks before laughing and shaking her head. “I don’t think I have enough words to describe how stupid that really is. But it’s proof of how far you’ve fallen, because you let your fiancé sell his soul so you could benefit, and that right there is beyond a joke. I was jealous of you before our last match, and I look at everything you’ve become since and if I didn’t have closure before I’d certainly have it now. I went to you before Total War because I wanted the BEST team I could have, even if it meant that I had to team with people I didn’t like. I made the right choice, I chose the BEST that I could, but it seems that these days it’s only me who actually realises that’s how good you can be. You’ve gone from being the loud-mouthed Hellcat to being so desperate for validation — despite the fact that the half the roster fucking worships you, I’d like to add — that you let your boyfriend sell his soul for you and all you do is whine endlessly about how much I’ve apparently taken from you. But you’re wrong Regan, I didn't have a damn thing from you!”

“That’s the truth right there, whether you can handle it or not. I didn’t have ANYTHING from you sweetie. I didn't rob you. I didn’t steal from you. I didn’t deny you. We went one on one on two different occasions and both times I left with the richest prize in the business, but yet the thing you lost on those two nights wasn’t the World title, it was perspective. David’s actions because of you almost cost SCW EVERYTHING at Total War. You’ve let a worm in to your world because you’ve gotten yourself all turned around. You don’t think 2014 was a success for you because you couldn’t win the big one? You’re wrong. You see winning this title, reigning as World Champion, it’s the pinnacle of everyone’s career that’s done it, but it’s not a right Regan. Nobody is ENTITLED to this title. You’ve got to EARN it. You’ve got to FIGHT for it. You’ve got to PROVE yourself. And the thing about that is that when you fall down — and EVERYONE falls down, no matter how good they are — you’ve got to get back up and you’ve got to go all over again. That’s what you’ve not realised. That’s what you’re missing. When you fall down in this business there is NOBODY who’ll pick you back up, you’ve got to pick YOURSELF up. And while there may be twenty people who sing your praises that doesn't make a damn bit of difference when you’re ON YOUR OWN in that ring,” she says before taking a deep breath. “Here’s a fact, and a fact that is painful for me to say but a fact nonetheless. Regan Street, you are one of the BEST in this business. You are one of the best to EVER lace up her boots. And if you get your head straight, you pick yourself up and you keep trying you WILL be the World Champion, and that’s not easy for me to say but it’s true. You WILL be the World Champion, but the strength to do that doesn’t come from anywhere but inside.”

“At the End of Year Special I said something that was more true than even I realised when I said it. I said that 2014 required a superhuman effort on my part, and it did. But here’s the thing sweetie, being the SCW World Heavyweight Champion REQUIRES you to be superhuman. It REQUIRES you to shrug off everything that happens, it REQUIRES you to push yourself harder than anyone else, it REQUIRES you to do the IMPOSSIBLE because it’s only by doing the impossible that you get that belt. It’s not about luck, it’s not about support, it’s not about anything but the ability to look inside and find the strength to do the impossible feats required that even Hercules would have struggled with,” she says with pride. “And everything you’ve done, all the wins, all the people you’ve beaten, all the accomplishments you’ve earned, aren’t enough for you because you’re not World Champion, right? Well, tomorrow night I’ve got a challenge for you. Tomorrow night when we step in to that ring it’ll be the BIGGEST POSSIBLE START to 2015, it’s a pay per view quality match to show the world what SCW in 2015 is going to be all about, and rather than crying, rather than whining, rather than pitying yourself and rather than looking to anyone else or blaming everyone else for everything that’s gone wrong my challenge to you is this simple Regan. Be superhuman. Be the BEST that you can be. Show the roster why they support you. Show the fans you’re more than just the whiny, self-involved bitch that I know you as. Show the world what Regan Street is all about. Be superhuman tomorrow night Regan because if you’re not, if you come in relying on luck, relying on fate or just SAYING you’re the best then you’re going to fail once again. You wanted this match. You wanted your chance to prove yourself. Well, here it is. This is your chance to be superhuman Regan, and if you can’t be superhuman then you’ll have to JUST BE JEALOUS instead.”

She holds the World title up to the camera and looks at it again before smiling once more to the camera. “If you want to wear this title then you’ve got to be the BEST, and to do that you’ve got to prove yourself at every level. I’m not talking about winning one big match a month, I’m talking about winning EVERY match against EVERY level of opponent, from Jessica Howell to Dylan Cent to Axel Porter to Simon Lyman to Shaun Cruze to Kelcey Wallace, to represent this company and to be the very best you’ve got push yourself to prove yourself every single time. You are one of the best ever Regan, and the last two times we’ve gone one on one with the World title on the line I’ve been better but I know that I won’t be forever. I know I can’t take that for granted. This Wednesday night we start off 2015 in the biggest possible way, and one of us gets to say that they won the third match in our rivalry. I hope it’s me, but I don’t doubt it could be you. What I can guarantee however is that win, lose or draw this won’t be the end of either one of us, because if you beat me tomorrow night I’m not going to wallow in self-pity, I’m not going to tweet how pointless my career is and how I’ll never make it to the top, and I’m certainly not going to sell out to ANYONE in this world. Tomorrow night we write another chapter in our rivalry. Tomorrow night we steal another show. Tomorrow night it’s Regan Street and Syren one more time, and it’s exclusively live on Breakdown. You guys wouldn’t miss that, right?”

She smiles at the camera before leaning in to it and kissing the lens. The video ends then and fades out to black before coming to an end with the replay button flashing up on the screen.

055: Take Nothing For Granted

Date Posted: 6th January 2015

With the most incredible year of my career behind me, it's time to kick off the next one in the biggest possible way, with the biggest match I can think of. This one has always been personal, but this time out I've got a message for Regan: take nothing for granted and push yourself to be the best. It's what I do every single day.
