The video begins and we see a pink t-shirt with a pink heart and wings. The camera pans out slowly to reveal more of the scene, along with more of the woman wearing the t-shirt. Syren just nods confidently at the camera. Where normally there’s a smile on her face, this time there’s a look of commitment and seriousness. She seems focused. Then, out of nowhere, she starts gushing. “Like, oh my god you guys. This is so exciting! Are you ready? I’ve got new photos! I know, I know, I was super hyped too! And because I’m, like, so gorgeous and I want everyone to know it you don’t need to wait to see them because look right here, I’ve posted them on Twitter for you to see. You ready? Ta-da,” she says, holding up an iPhone Plus to the camera that’s displaying a Twitter feed but not her own, rather that of former SCW employee and current UWA starlet Rachel Tatum Lee. She gushes again happily before looking at the phone and then the smile disappears from her face. “Oh, wait, that’s not right. That’s not me. I see so many photos here but they’re of someone else. Wait, hold on, I can fix this. Right, sorry, I guess I’m just not very good at this. Wait, wait… yep, ok, it’s fixed. I’ve got this. Sorry about that. Don’t know what happened before but NOW I’m ready. Are you? Are you ready to be amazed? Uh, I mean like wow, right? Everyone knows how much I love these moments, everyone knows how much I love posting photos of me looking gorgeous so here we go, in three… two… one….”
She holds up the phone again. Again, there’s a stream of tweets and photographs scrolling down the screen from where she’s flicked the phone before turning it to the camera, but once again they’re not from her stream but rather that of her long-time rival and former SCW World Champion Regan Street. “Like, amazing, right? Oh, wait, I did it wrong again…” she says as she looks at the phone and then the over exaggerated accent disappears, as does the gushing that she seemed to be enjoying. She tosses the phone to one side and just shakes her head. “Fucking really, Josh? Is that what you think of me? You think I spend all day every day promoting myself on social media because I’m that vain and arrogant? No sweetie, I think you’re confusing me with the women you think are superior to me in every possible way. It’s an easy mistake to make though, right? Of course. I mean, who wouldn’t make that mistake? I’m just so much like them. And I know how much you hate that. I know how much you hate women who love the sound of their own voice. I know how much you hate women who believe themselves the superior of all around them. I know how much you hate vain, arrogant bitches who incapable of seeing anyone as superior to themselves and happy to tell the world about it at every opportunity. That’s why you came after me, right? That’s why you sought to destroy me. That’s why you returned to SCW to take me out. Because I’m the worst of the bunch. Oh, wait, only I see a problem. I mean whose Twitter was I just looking at?”
She rolls her eyes. “So, let me get this straight. You hate me because I’m vain. Yet you hang around Regan Street, the patron saint of humility. And aren’t you married to the former Rachel Frost, the same woman I can find countless instances of running her mouth and forcing her ego down everyone’s throats. But sure, I’M the problem. I’M the one who’s damaging this business. I’M the one so desperate for attention that after thirty seconds without being in front of a camera I’ll stab my own grandmother in the back to get another minute of airtime. Yah, you’re totally right, I think that must be why every single one of the SCW fans have unanimously supported you in your quest to forever rid SCW of my evil, sickening presence. Oh wait…” she says before scoffing and rolling her eyes. “You know, when this whole thing first started I figured the person who’d come after me was looking to make a name for themselves and get rid of me so they could take my spot. That tends to be the way it works. And it’s hardly an original thing either. It’s happened a lot. Month after month another person jumps me in the back with the declaration that they’re superior to me in every way, and month after month they seek to prove it. Guess they’re not doing too well at it considering I’m still here, huh? But this time was different, for two reasons. This time the person who tried to take me out wasn’t crowing about how they did it to prove they’re better than me. In fact, they were saying nothing at all. And this time they didn’t just take me out, they almost ended my career!”
She nods her head slowly. “Of course, I did what I do. I came back. Doesn’t matter who tries to take me out, that’s one thing you can always guarantee with me. No detours to IWC. No short time spent in UWA to regain my confidence. Nope, straight back into the fire, doing what I do best, and demanding to know who took me out. Turns out it was you. And you give me this hate-filled tirade about why you did it. You tell me I’m everything that’s wrong with wrestling. You tell me I need those around me to give me confidence. You tell me I’m nothing if my friends and my family aren’t propping me up. You tell me I’m in love with my own voice and a toxic influence to the company that I’ve PROUDLY represented for eight consecutive years. And the whole time you’re saying this – with a straight face no less – you’re MARRIED TO RACHEL FROST,” she can’t help but practically yell into the camera. “Seriously, are you TRYING to be funny, or did you just come up with the most insane bullshit reason for taking me out and commit to it completely like a fucking method actor? No, that’s not fair, most method actors aren’t HALF as committed to the complete charade that they put on as you are, Josh. For that I seriously want to applaud you. I mean bra-fucking-vo. Well done. Ladies and gentlemen, the Oscar goes to… Yet we know it’s all bullshit, don’t we? Because if you meant one single word of it, if you actually believed that I was all you say I am and that I’m this toxic influence on this company that you and you alone can rid of it of you wouldn’t hang around REGAN STREET and SIENNA SWANN on a weekly basis! I mean god, it’s like you’re TRYING to look like the biggest hypocrite in existence!”
She paces back and forth for a moment, running her hands through her hair and taking a deep breath before looking back to the camera again. “So, what do we know? Well, we know that you were the one who laid me out a few months ago. We know the reason you SAY you did it cannot possibly be true, or you’d have to be the most self-loathing asshole on the face of the planet considering the people you list amongst your very best friends in the world. But what else do we know, Josh? Oh, right, we know that you’re going to rid the company of me forever. That’s your thing, right? That’s your vow. You’re not just going to beat me, you’re going to cripple me. I’m going to end up in a wheelchair. I’m going to be begging for my life. I’m going to be eating my dinners through a straw. You’re going to break my neck and leave me for dead when we get in the ring. These are your vows. This is your mantra. And at Taking Hold of the Flame the great, almighty Josh Hudson did everything he promised he would do, proved his supremacy over that vile bitch Syren and ridded the company of her forever, right?” she asks, nodding her head before rolling her eyes and scoffing again. “Oh no wait, that didn’t happen either! In fact, it turns out when you’re not attacking me from behind you find it a little harder to injure me than you thought. Guess that proved to be quite a problem for you, huh? But at least you beat me and showed why you’re in every way superior to me, just like you promised? Heh, do I even need to act surprised that that vow was YET ANOTHER piece of bullshit that you spewed? No, I don’t think I do.”
“So, what’s the deal, Josh? I mean the only thing I know for certain about everything you’ve told me so far is that you really DO hate me. That, I think we can agree, is one hundred percent truth. What you’re gonna do about it… well, that much we’re less in agreement on. But we both know what you want to do. You failed at Taking Hold of the Flame. You got yourself disqualified when you found that I wasn’t the push over bitch you thought I was. And when our match ended you were scampering while I was holding a steel chair and doing what I promised I’d do – standing tall in the ring, now you probably still believe that you got the last laugh. You eliminated me from Taking Hold of the Flame. Congratulations on that. Good job. You denied me what I wanted at Rise to Greatness. You made sure I wasn’t in the main event. But since you claim to hate whores I’m pretty sure you must be sick to your stomach that Ace Marshall is… so I guess I got the last laugh there, huh? Oh, and don’t worry, Ace is happy to be called a whore by his friends… which unfortunately I’m one of,” she says before sighing. “Yah, I need better friends. Then again if you’re to be believed he’s not my friend, right? I used him to get what I wanted. I used Amy Chastaine too, I think, right? I mean, obviously I did. It’s not like we’ve been on stage together at charity events since then or anything, right? Oh no wait… Seriously, I’m not even going to bother telling you everything wrong with your logic anymore. At this point I think we can all agree that you’re talking out your ass and get on with what’s important.”
She sighs. “The fact is I’m probably never going to get you to admit the real reasons you hate me, but I think I already know. You hate me because I’ve done things you’ve never done. You think of yourself as a prize fighter, as this big, beast of a man, a conqueror who can tear through the competition like they’re not even there and push yourself to the front of any queue… and you can’t handle the fact that while you WANT to be at the top of this company, I AM at the top of this company. It drives you crazy. But if that were the ONLY reason for you coming after me then you’d have come out and said it, right? You’d have stepped in front of the SCW crowd while I was on the injured list, beat your chest and shouted, ‘me Josh Hudson, me break puny girl’. But you didn’t. In fact, you didn’t do that until after I came back, when you tried to break me a second time. So, what were you waiting for? Do you want to know my theory? It’s pretty simple. I think I told you before, but since it’s Rise to Greatness and the eyes of the world are on us I figure I’ll give the fans a refresher course. I think the reason you came after me has nothing to do with any of the justifications you’ve given. I think the reason you came after me isn’t even because you hate me. I think you came after me because you were told to come after me. I think your bitch friends are angry they couldn’t get the job done so they sent the big, manly Josh Hudson to finish me. New problem: what happens when the big manly conqueror gets conquered on Sunday night?”
She laughs. “Now we almost found out the answer to that a few weeks ago, didn’t we? We almost found out what would happen but you got yourself disqualified. And that could have been the end of it. Except no. Not only did you run your mouth about me, but there’s a more important factor to consider here. That isn’t that you weren’t done with me. It’s that I’m not done with you yet. I’m not satisfied with a disqualification victory. You tried to END me, Josh. You threatened my career. You threatened my LIFE! You threatened to cripple me and deny me the chance to ever play with my kids again, deny me the chance to hold them in my arms, deny me the chance to give them piggyback rides on the beach. You think I was just going to let that go because of a disqualification win? No. That’s why we’re getting in the ring this Sunday. And this Sunday you get the chance to do what you SAY you’re going to do. You have the chance to beat me. You have the chance to humiliate me. You have the chance to send me away from SCW forever. But you won’t. This is your best chance though. This Sunday it’s a submission match. This Sunday it’s YOUR speciality. This Sunday I challenged you and I’m the one stepping into the lion’s den. But that’s ok…” she says as a smile spreads across her face. “…because this Sunday, on the biggest stage in wrestling, in front of your friends, in front of everyone who believes in you, I’m going to make you TAP, Josh. No ridding SCW of ‘the virus’. No waving goodbye to Syren. Just Josh Hudson, in the middle of the ring, tapping out!”
She pauses before smiling confidently. “How do you spin that one, Josh? What do you do then when it comes to those promises you’ve made? How do you justify the fact that in front of the entire watching world this Sunday I going to make you tap? Do you tell them it doesn’t count? Do you puff out your chest and tell me that you’re still superior anyway? Ooh, I know, maybe you get your wife and your friends to tell you that you’re still the best even in defeat, right? Because only the weak ones need that, right?” she says before laughing. She pauses for a moment before taking another breath. “But if you’re to be believed you won’t need to spin it, will you? Because it won’t happen. Because you’re going to be the victor. You’re going to destroy me. I know it’s what you’re thinking. I know it’s what you want to tell me. Only you made a few mistakes, Josh. Your first was that you attacked my wife. You shouldn’t have done that. Secondly, the whole ‘break your neck’ thing? Yah, you shouldn’t have done that either. But the biggest mistake you made in this whole thing was just accepting this challenge. Any other match and you could have escaped with your dignity, right? Any other match and you could have made your excuses. But not this one. This one doesn’t end until one of us taps… and I won’t tap, Josh. I won’t. You don’t believe me. Why would you? You think that I’ve never felt pain like the pain you’re going to inflict on me. Maybe you’re right. Maybe I haven’t. But I still won’t tap. I won’t give you the satisfaction! Not after all you’ve done. So now I’ve got a new question for you… if you can’t make me tap, can you make me pass out?”
She stares into the camera coldly. “That’s what this comes down to, Josh. See I know all about you. I know how big you are. I know how tough you are. I know how goddamn GOOD you are. I know you’re in the 2013 class of the Hall of Fame for a reason, and that reason is that you deserve to be in there. Because one thing you weren’t wrong about is everything you said about how good you were. It was true. You are that good. But I’m better. And you’ve got a will stronger than almost anyone I’ve ever met. But is it stronger than mine? What do you think, Josh? Which one of us has the strongest will? Which one of us has the most will power? When it comes down to you and me in the middle of that ring which one of us will be able to force the other one to tap out or pass out before the other? Truth is I’d say against anyone else you’d be the favourite. I mean that. But against me?” she asks before shaking her head slowly. “There is nobody in this company with more will than me, Josh. Nobody. Not now. Not in the years gone by. Nobody. There is a reason I have stood in front of millions of people in my time and told them that I will ALWAYS come back from whatever anyone does to me, on their own or in their dozens, and that’s because I have an iron will that somebody like you will NEVER understand. And THAT, Josh, is my BIGGEST strength! That is what you’ve got to fight this Sunday. That is what you’ve got to overcome. And while you and your pathetic friends may think that you’ve got this one in the bag I promise you that there is NOTHING you can do to me that I won’t fight back from until my body crumbles, until I lack the strength to move even the slightest muscle and I crumble into unconsciousness on the mat. I promise you that.”
She takes in a deep breath. “For all the people who’ve hated on me over the years, that’s one thing they never understand. I’ve called myself the Best Female Wrestler in the World, I’ve said that I’m Second to No Man, and I haven’t done that because I think I’m better technically than anyone in the world, or I’m stronger than anyone in the world, or I’m faster than anyone in the world, but because I have a will inside that ring that NOBODY can surpass. Truth is that ring is where I feel at home. It’s the only place in this entire world that I am in complete control. You want an insight into me, Josh? My life is crazy. I’m under more pressure than you can imagine. I try to please too many people, and there’s just one of me. I can’t be everywhere. I can’t do everything. But it doesn’t stop me wishing I could. This week, Rise to Greatness week, has been one of the most hectic of my entire life. I’ve dealt with countless people who want something from me. I’ve dealt with fans. I’ve dealt with haters. And it’s all been insane. But when I step into that ring this Sunday I’ll be where I belong once again, and everything else will be worth it,” she says softly and confidently. “So, now it’s your turn. Tell me why you’re superior to me. Tell me why you’re better than me. Give me one single truth in everything you’ve said to me because ever since you’ve come back, ever since you’ve been enthralled by one of the worst human beings who ever lived, all you’ve done is spit bullshit and lies. You don’t care about SCW. You don’t care about your own career even, do you? You’re in the Hall of Fame and yet you’re spitting on a lifetime of work with everything you’ve done since you attacked me. So just tell me the truth, Josh. Or don’t. It won’t matter anyway after Sunday, right? Because on Sunday I’m going to fight you in your own match, and I’m not just going to beat you. I’m going to make you tap. And when I do I won’t tell you to be jealous. When I do I’ll show you now and forever more why I’m at the top of this company, and why I am UNSTOPPABLE!”
She takes in a deep breath again before letting it out slowly. She bows her head for a moment before looking up into the camera and smiling. “Now you’ll have to excuse me, because while all your friends are on Twitter hyping themselves up I’ll be busy doing what I do – talking to fans, fulfilling commitments to this company, and being the face of this promotion, not because I need to in order to justify my own arrogance, but because for all your talk, people like you can’t be bothered to,” she says before blowing a kiss at the camera. “See you in the ring.”
And with that she walks off leaving the camera pointed at the wall behind her and running for a few more moments before the scene fades out and the video ends, with the replay button flashing up on the screen.
