The video begins and we see the inside of a hotel room that, based on the appearance of the hotel room itself, could be almost anywhere in the world. However it’s immediately obvious the country and location based on the fact that outside the window of the hotel room the Fleurdelisé can be seen flying on a flag pole. Focusing back on the hotel room however and we see Zoe Sperling, better known to wrestling fans as Syren, stepping in front of the camera. She’s dressed in a t-shirt with her heart logo on the front surrounded by the words ‘Best Female Wrestler in the World’ around it. She has something in her hand that appears to be a document of some kind but whatever it is isn’t immediately obvious from the way she’s holding it, with the front away from the camera. “Hey everyone,” she begins before smirking, “or should that be ‘bonjour’ considering where we are right now? I don’t know, I’d try talking French but I’d be worried I’d end up saying something totally offensive by accident. The reason for the French though, if you didn’t know, is that tomorrow night begins the start of a mini Canadian tour with our first show, Breakdown, live tomorrow night in Montreal. Now with every foreign tour it means being a long way away from home, it means conditions that we don’t normally have to deal with – and right now it’s like thirteen degrees outside so yah, its WAY cold – but it also means opportunities to compete in front of fans we only see a few times a year at most, and for me that makes tomorrow night something a little bit special. Now I can totally understand why some people are down on the whole foreign tour thing, and I have been in the past as well, but just recently I feel like it’s going to take a lot to get me down. I’m not completely sure why though. Would anyone like to guess?”
She smirks before revealing to the camera what she has in her hand, holding it up proudly to reveal a Trios Contract. “Oh, well, this might have a little something to do with it,” she says with a huge smile, looking at the contract and then at the camera again. “That’s right, total spoiler alert if you’ve STILL not checked out the latest edition of SCW Supreme Saturday – and if you haven’t then seriously, where have you been? – but for the third straight tournament, breaking a record I already set for consecutive wins in this tournament, a little over a week ago I got to walk away with this wonderful little contract in hand. And to a lot of you guys this may look like a contract and you may think that it’s no big deal because in the wrestling business we deal with contracts all the time – and it’s true, we do, we have to sign so many especially when it comes to pay per view matches – but this one is different. This one is one of three that the entire roster wanted to get their hands on last Saturday. And I could stand here and be a total bitch and be like ‘neh neh, I won and you didn’t’ but I’m not going to do that. In fact the first thing I want to do is say thank you. Thank you to every single person last week in Detroit who sold out the Joe Louis Arena to watch the show, thank you to Jake Starr and Skullkeeper, two guys you’ve all seen I don’t get along with but two guys who proved that they wanted to win last Saturday just as much as I did, and most of all thank you to every single person who believed, because I’ll be honest there haven’t been a whole lot of ‘experts’ who’ve been backing me lately. Everyone thinks I’m suicidal. Everyone thinks I’m crazy. Everyone thinks I’m walking to my death by challenging Rachel Frost and even more think I’ve completely lost my mind for making the match not just any match but a THUNDERDOME match, but I know I’m not.”
“The reason I wanted that match is because it’s the biggest match it can be, at one of the biggest pay per view events of the year, and on March 16th I’m walking in to the Thunderdome and I’m ENDING this thing with Rachel Frost once and for all, I’m fighting one of the biggest matches of the year and I’m stealing the show YET AGAIN and that is exactly what happened last Saturday as well. Twenty four individuals all lined up, all wanting nothing more than to win the tournament, to claim their reward and to book their own ticket to ANY match they wanted but I lined up last Saturday thinking about all that and so much more. Last Saturday I went out to that ring looking to make history once again, and that’s what I did. I’m so proud of that fact. I’m so proud of being able to say that THREE YEARS IN A ROW I’ve entered this tournament and this time I had to fight for my spot but I fought for it with pride and I fought three matches and I took the best that they had to offer and between the three of us – because I’d love to take all the credit but it was most definitely a team effort – we defied all the odds and we justified our spot as favourites,” Zoe says, excitement obviously rushing through her as she talks. “But ever since that victory the questions have started. Everyone wants to know what I’m going to do with this contract. Everyone wants to know when I’m going to use it. They want to know if I’ll be cashing it in on Breakdown in a few weeks, they want to know if I’ll be trying to win the championship at the same event two years in a row, everyone wants to know what I’m going to do and I’m here to answer that question right now. Do you guys want to know what I’m going to do? Ok, well I don’t the exact match yet, I don’t know the event, I don’t know the stipulation, but I do know this – this contract is my ticket, this contract is everything I wanted in this world, this contract is proof to the entire world that you don’t need to backstab, bitch, whine and complain to get the best opportunities, you just need to walk out to that ring and stand tall and prove you’re the BEST!”
She pauses for a moment, taking a few breaths and almost calming down from her excitement. “And when I cash in this contract, that is exactly what I’m going to prove to everyone in the world,” she says with a smile. “This contract gives me an opportunity to prove in front of the world that I am not only the Best Female Wrestler in the World but that whether they’re male or female, whether they’re big or small, whether they’re great in-ring technicians or hardcore brawlers this contract gives me the opportunity to pick my spot and prove to the world that Syren is the best of them all. The fact is that every moment since we won I’ve not stopped smiling but one thing that did almost wipe the smile off my face was the super creepy bullshit on Breakdown. Decapitated Barbie dolls hanging from a gallows and set on fire? Geez, and here I thought people were saying I was the crazy one going in to this! People may think I’m crazy for wanting this match, but there’s no doubt who the truly warped one of the two of us is, but in a few weeks it won’t matter. In a few weeks she can torch all the toys she wants because when we step inside the Thunderdome on March 16th one thing I promise you all is that playtime is OVER! You see I’m not paying attention to all the distractions, I’m not thinking about the future, I’m not planning ahead to the Trios Tournament Contract cash in, and I’m definitely not distracting myself with the likes of Matt Auclair and David Helms. But because my focus is on March 16th don’t think for a minute that that mean I’m looking past tomorrow night. That’s already been a misconception around here lately, that I’m going to be so focused on the big match coming up that I’m not going to pay attention to what’s right in front of me, but Collin don’t worry because I would never be stupid enough to overlook you.”
“Collin Cole is one of those guys that I think a lot of people have looked past before, and I know he’s got a chip on his shoulder about it. I can’t say I blame him for that either because I’ve been there. I’ve felt that exact same feeling. I’ve felt that when the Infamous was around like everyone wanted to fight CHBK, or Lucas Knight, or Christy Matthews, and they’d all look past me. They’d see me as ‘just the Women’s Champion’, they’d look down their noses at me and think that I didn’t matter and one by one I proved to them all that nobody should EVER look past me. So Collin, I know how you feel. I know that anger that wells up inside you whenever someone looks past you or dismisses you. I used that feeling to fuel me, I took the feeling I got when guys like Shawn Winters told me I wasn’t good enough or that I was ‘killing’ the Tag Team division and I balled it all up inside and I used it to fight, and I fought all the way to the top of SCW. I’ve known you a long time Collin, I remember when you were a cocky young guy and half of Your New Favourite Tag Team and I remember back then everyone knew you were going to be the star of the team. You proved that right, didn’t you? But people still overlooked you, even though you’ve done something that I’ve never done. You raised the United States Championship high over your head, something I’ve dreamt about doing in the past. So don’t think for a moment that I don’t know all about you Collin, don’t think for a moment that I’m approaching this match with both eyes on Rachel Frost and the Thunderdome and that you’ll just be able to wander in and steal this one because you won’t. In fact there’s only one thing that’s being stolen this week and that’s you and me going out there in front of the world and stealing the show and proving how good we both are!”
“There’s a lot of pressure on both of us going in to this match as well. If I lose this one then people will claim I took my eyes off the ball, they’ll claim I wasn’t focused, they’ll begin to pick apart weaknesses in me and they’ll think I’m slipping back to where I was last year, when it felt like no matter how hard I fought I just couldn’t get any momentum behind me. And this week the momentum means even more because this is my last scheduled match before the Thunderdome and I know damn well I’m going to need all the confidence and all the momentum in the world going in to that match. But there’s a lot of pressure on you as well Collin. The pressure on you comes from two different sources. First of all, it comes from the pressure you’ve put on yourself. Last week you talked about power, about seizing power, and you’ve got this chip on your shoulder right now about how you’re an outsider, how nobody understands you and nobody respects you. But tell me Collin, is that really how you feel? Nobody has put you on the outside; you’ve done that to yourself because you’re comfortable there. I see a lot of people like that. You think you have your own agenda, you think it’s some big secret or you’re mysterious but it’s not. You want to be at the top. It’s clear as day. The difference between people like you and people like me is that you think you need to be on the ‘outside’ to get it, you think you need the Falconry around you but you don’t. Look at me. I knew what I wanted and unlike everyone else I stepped in to the middle of the ring and I told the world that this is what I want, I told the entire locker room I was better than all of them, and I’ve spent four and a half years PROVING that. I didn’t gather people around me; I pushed them all away and stepped out on my own because I didn’t need them. Now I’m not telling you to do the same thing, I’m not telling you that you should step out on your own, if you want to be part of your group them go for it, but just don’t stand there acting like what you’re doing is so unique because the only unique thing in this day and age is having the guts to EARN your spot!”
Zoe nods proudly. “But there’s more pressure on you as well, isn’t there? There’s pressure put on you but your undying love for CHBK,” she says before smiling a little. “I’ve been there as well. The man is a legend. A Hall of Famer. And I know you’ve admired him since before you even got your foot in the door, so for you last week teaming with the legend himself must have been so special. But here’s the thing about Alex sweetie – he uses people and guys like you, guys wrapped up in their adoration of him, just can’t see that. It must suck for you right now though, to see everything he’s doing for Regan Street? He’s taken her under his wing. He’s guiding her career. He’s the one responsible for getting her the championship match she has at Retribution, a championship match that came about through non-stop whining. But you’ve got to be looking at that and wondering why he picked her, right? You’ve admired him from day one and he barely even notices you, yet Regan throws a hissy fit on Twitter three times a week and he’s all over her. How’s that make you feel? Do you think you can prove you deserve his attention as well? Did you hope that that’s what would happen last Saturday? Do you hope that’s what will happen tomorrow night? That’s got to have gone through your mind. What would happen if you beat Syren, would CHBK see the potential in you? Maybe you wouldn’t be an outsider then. Maybe he’d taken you and your friends and he’d guide you like he’s guiding her. That’s got to have occurred to you. That motivates you, doesn’t it? You’re where you are today; you’re the man you are today, because of him. And weirdly I’m the woman I am today because of him as well, but not because I wanted him guiding me.”
“CHBK was a huge influence on me, a huge influence on my career, but he’s also been a detractor. There was a time when I wanted his respect, and when he picked against me going in to the Elimination Chamber it got in my head and I’m not proud of that. I let what he thought about me affect the way I thought about myself. I let his doubt in me cause me to doubt myself. But then I realised that what he thought about me didn’t matter. What Adam Sharper, Shawn Winters or Jonathan Knots thinks about me doesn’t matter. The thing that matters to me is what I think about myself and now I don’t draw my confidence from the opinions of guys like him, I draw my confidence from knowing deep down inside that I can stand toe to toe with ANYONE in that ring and that I can beat them,” she explains with pride in her voice. “And when I realised that I didn’t need to define myself by the way other people saw me then I realised something else as well, and that’s that I didn’t need to be like anyone else. You want to be like him, don’t you Collin? It’s so obvious in everything you do. But I don’t. The only person I want to be is me! So you want power Collin? You want control? You want to seize it all in the palm of your hand? Then this week I’ve got a simple challenge for you – come and take it! You want to be a star? You want to get to the top? Come and prove it! Tomorrow night step in the ring with me and I promise you that I’ll give you everything I have and I won’t hold back thinking about the future. You want to guide the Falconry to new levels of success and you want the world to respect you? Step up to the challenge and inside a sold out Centre Bell tomorrow night step in to the middle of the ring and prove to the world how good you are. You can even bring your friends, show what an ‘outsider’ you really are, what a rebel and free-thinker you truly can be. And don’t worry, I’m not hard to find. I’ll be the one standing in the middle of the ring, ready once again to prove why I am the best! So this week sweetie you can be good, or JUST BE JEALOUS!”
She smiles at the camera before stepping up to it and kissing the lens before the video ends and the replay button appears on the screen.
