The video begins and we see a shot of a television screen. The camera is clearly being held by hand and the television screen at first is entirely white and we can’t see what’s on and only hear the sound of a crowd cheering. As the camera focuses however we see the screen of the television far more clearly and we see Shilo Valiant in the ring. The footage continues and we see Syren running the ropes and leaping up, going for a move only to have it countered by Shilo. We continue watching on as the crowd cheers wildly for Shilo and he plants Syren in the middle of the ring. The camera zooms in more as we hear the referee count the three count and as soon as it’s over we hear the beginning of Shilo’s theme music before the video pauses and we hear the voice of the woman we’ve just seen lose from behind the camera. “Here is your winner and new Heavyweight Champion of the World, Shilo Valiant,” she says softly before laughing a little. After a few seconds she turns the camera around to focus on herself. She’s lying on a bed and we see she’s dressed in a pink tight-fitting t-shirt and white underwear, but other than that her legs are bare. “That little bit of footage I just showed you? That was almost a year ago. That was July 28th last year in Toronto inside the Rogers Center and you can hear those people cheering, can’t you? They weren’t cheering for me. They were cheering for my failure. That night may have been more than nine months ago now but it’s still the night I think about every single day. And that loss is something I’ve lived with every single day since it happened. I think about that night all the time, and for so many reasons but most of all for the reason that that moment, that little tiny bit of footage you just saw from Canada nine months ago, was the last time I was able to call myself a champion.”

She lets out a long sigh and continues to hold the camera on herself. “Now I’m not showing you this because I want your pity. I know I won’t get it. I’m showing you this because this is the forty third time since that night that I’ve watched the match back again and hated every second of every time that I’ve watched it. So, why have I done it forty three times? Because I learn from it! They say we learn more from our failures that our successes. They’re right. I’ve beaten Shilo Valiant in all kinds of different situations. He told me that Dark Fantasy would never beat Karnivale, and we did. He told me that neither of us would ever pin him, and I did. He told us that we’d never retain the titles against them, and we did. He told me that I’d never make it to the main event, and I did. He told me that I’d never be World Champion, and I won it. And then he told me that I’d never beat him at Rise to Greatness, that I’d never win the biggest match on the biggest stage... and for the first time when he told me I couldn’t do something, he was right. Nine months later it’s still eating at me. I think about all the amazing things I’ve done since then, and all the times I’ve come up short since then, and that one moment still hurts me more than the rest of them combined. The final moments of my reign as World Heavyweight Champion, the final moments of the greatest experience of my life, the final few moments of the most the greatest and the most heartbreaking match of my life... and it was a great match. I mean, we won Match of the Year at the End of Year Special for it, didn’t we? But when we won that, Shilo wasn’t there to pick up the award,” she says with a smirk. “He’d taken his ball and gone home. We’ll probably see him in a few weeks though as a secret entrant in to the Battle Royal at Taking Hold of the Flame, won’t we?”

She laughs a little at the camera. “Yah, we’ll probably see a lot of former champions coming out of wherever they’ve been for the last several months to try and reclaim the glory of winning that match, but there’s one former champion who’s never walked away, one former champion who’s never quit, one former champion who continues to push herself every single week to be the BEST that she can be, and that’s me. No time off. No time to lick my wounds. I get destroyed in an Elimination Chamber and I’m back fighting in a tag team match. I get destroyed in a First Blood match and I’m back fighting in a tag team match. I get beaten inside the Thunderdome and I’m back fighting Thirteen and Tommy Valentine and stealing the show week after week because that’s what I’m about, that’s who I am,” she tells the camera proudly before nodding her head slowly. “It’s never been easy. I’ve been the most hated girl on the planet, and now I get cheered, but either way it’s never been easy. And I love you guys for your support, from the bottom of my heart I mean that, but it still hurts, you know? And I’ve faced impossible odds, I’ve fought impossible matches, and on Saturday night at Battle in Brooklyn I achieved a personal milestone. I think it was mentioned on commentary. I won my hundredth match in SCW. One hundred and one victories now, and you know what, as much as that means to me I’d trade every single one of them right now for the one thing I want more than anything. They say when you get knocked off the horse the first thing you need to do is get back on. I’ve been fighting for nine months to get back on, and I’m ready for it to happen now more than ever. One hundred wins, two reigns as World Champion, Women’s Champion and World Tag Team Champion and yet the moment you just saw, Rise to Greatness last year, that is still what defines me in SCW...”

She laughs and shakes her head slowly. “Well, I’m going to change that,” she promises confidently. “Going up against William Mason and Jessica Howell was tough, you know? I hurt my back, I got beaten up pretty badly both nights and both competitors showed me just how good they can be. I told them both that I wasn’t going to underestimate either one of them and I didn’t. I went in that ring and I fought, and in the end I had my hand raised not once but twice, and people cheered but I still felt empty inside. There’s something missing inside me at the moment and I’ve been trying to find a way to fill it. I have a hole that I need to fill. Ok, that probably came out wrong, but whatever, don’t get all pervy over it! What I’m trying to say is in nine months I’ve learned a lot, and the one thing I’ve learned more than anything is that I’m not going to quit. So this week it’s a new month, there’s going to be a new group of people looking to make a statement, probably a whole bunch of people wanting to prove themselves ahead of the Battle Royal in Atlanta, right? So, prove yourselves. Come jump me from behind. I know there’s so many of you guys who love doing that. Give it a shot this week. Jump me from behind and see what happens because you boys aren’t the only ones looking to make a statement. I’m looking to make a statement as well, a statement that says that THAT moment nine months ago will NOT be the thing that defines my career anymore, and that at Rise to Greatness THIS year in Miami I WILL be in the main event fighting for the SCW World Heavyweight Championship that those aren’t just idle words like you hear from a thousand other people every week, that is a PROMISE from a competitor who goes a damn long way to keep every promise she makes!”

“Now my chance to make a statement won’t come from attacking someone in the backstage. My chance to make a statement will come in the middle of the ring on Wednesday night because it doesn’t matter that I’m beaten up, it doesn’t matter that the world saw William Mason almost break me in half at Battle in Brooklyn, because bad back and all I’m competing in Calgary on Wednesday night against Dylan Howell. Now Dylan, first and foremost I want to say welcome back! We all saw what happened to you at the End of Year Special, we all saw Rachel take that sledgehammer and not just try to win the match but try to end your career to send a statement about who she is. I know you and I haven’t exactly been the best of friends, and we have history involving an attack after one of my matches and then me kind of throwing you off the stage – sorry about that, I was not in a happy mood – but no matter who you’ve worked for, no matter what things you’ve done, nobody EVER deserves to have someone else try and take their career away from them! What happened to you was wrong on so many levels, and you can choose to believe I’m insincere when I say that or you can choose to believe the truth, which is that I’ve never been more serious. Seeing you back and competing again, seeing you about to step back in to the ring and back in Jesse’s corner at the pay per view, was fantastic. It was inspirational even, to think that you came back from everything she tried to do to you and proved that you won’t let it end like that. And I’ve heard everything Jesse’s been saying while you’ve been gone, I’ve heard her updates and her messages – and I would have sent flowers but, you know, I don’t think you’d have believed they were genuine so I didn’t – and I know now you’re back you’ve got a mission: revenge!”

“Now honestly, that’s something we all want to see you get. It’s something that we all know you deserve. And I have no doubt in my mind that you’ll do things the right way when you get the chance, that you’ll know the best way to get even with someone like her isn’t to sink to her level but rise above it. I’ve been where you are. I’ve been the one laid out. I’ve been the one attacked. And ok, I’m unbelievably thankful that I wasn’t hurt as badly as you were, but I’ve been there, I know how it feels and I know how pumped up it gets you for the next time out, for the next match. I know right now you’re probably thinking about Wednesday night and you’re planning on using it as a huge stepping stone toward getting what you want. You were at ringside on Sunday, you know me right now a lot better than I know you, and you’re probably thinking that this week you’re going to beat me and send a message to the world that Dylan Howell is back, that he’s ready and he’s heading toward Taking Hold of the Flame. We’re all looking for momentum going in to that one, and I know that this week is your chance to start building it, so it’s personal when I tell you that I can’t let that happen,” she says with a shrug of her shoulders. “I want to see you succeed Dylan, I really do. We all know the old saying about how the enemy of my enemy is my friend, and that makes just about the entire locker room friends when it comes to Rachel Foxx, Richard Lyman and the Coalition. But this Wednesday on Breakdown it isn’t about that. It isn’t about your marriage. It isn’t about your comeback. It isn’t about anything that’s happened to you. This Wednesday on Breakdown is about the opportunity for the two of us to fight in the middle of that ring, and it’s about the opportunity for me to keep building momentum.”

“Nine months to you probably means nothing. That video I showed you at the beginning of this probably means nothing to you. Everything I’ve been through since, every struggle I’ve been through, every difficulty I’ve overcome probably means nothing to you. Why should it? We’re not friends. We don’t talk. Hell, we don’t even tweet each other. But that all may mean nothing to you but it means everything to me. It’s the reason I keep getting up no matter how hard I’m knocked down. It’s the reason I keep fighting no matter how helpless the odds may look. It’s the reason that I’ve stood up to ANYONE who’s gotten in my face, the reason I’ve stood up to ANYONE who’s tried to make their name off of me and push themselves ahead of me and it’s what’s driving me again this week. I had an incredible match with Jessica, I respect her even more for the fight she gave me and I genuinely wish you both nothing but the best, but this Wednesday I have one mission, one goal and that is to beat you,” she says passionately. “You see there’s something you should know about me Dylan, something you need to know about me before this match, and that’s for someone fighting for ANY opportunity there are no small matches. I walked in to Battle in Brooklyn and Heaven Knows as the favourite to win two out of two without doubt, but how many times have the favourites slipped up? How many times have the sure thing wiped out? We saw it happen earlier tonight actually; when the San Jose Sharks officially lost their three-nothing lead against the LA Kings, and the Kings fought all the way back to take it to Game 7. They were fighting for their playoff lives, fighting to keep their dreams alive no matter if everyone thought it was just a matter of time and now they’re back on level terms and anything can happen.”

“Favourite, underdog, expected to win or expected to lose, my whole career I never let any of those four things define how I’d approach any situation. I’ve been expected to lose so many times and I’ve overcome it to win. I’ve been expected to win on more than one occasion only to slip up and lose. I know how it feels. I’ve taken opponents lightly and lived to regret it. This week in the Scotiabank Saddledome I won’t take you for granted Dylan. It can’t happen! I don’t care how long you’ve been out, I don’t care how many matches you’ve had lately, I know how dangerous you can be, I know how damn good you can be and I know this match means more to me right now than any other. This week I plan to walk out in front of the world on Breakdown and I plan to steal the show once again. And I don’t care if there are people at ringside, I don’t care if everyone in the locker room is watching or if every single one of them has other plans, hell I don’t even care if it takes another forty minutes in competition against you, because for nine months I’ve had those words in my head Dylan. For nine months they’ve echoed in my brain. ‘Your winner and new Heavyweight Champion of the World, Shilo Valiant’,” she says again before shaking her head. “For nine months I’ve remembered that night, and I am on a mission to wipe that memory from my head forever! If I beat you I’m not expecting them to roll out the red carpet, if I beat you I’m not expecting Mr Douche to change the habit of a lifetime and give me an opportunity, if I beat you I’ll tell you exactly what I’m expecting – absolutely nothing. But I don’t just show up for the big matches. I don’t just care when there’s something on the line. One hundred and one wins in my SCW career, and this Wednesday I intend on making it one hundred and two and building momentum once again toward what I want more than anything! So in Calgary I intend to stand tall, and if you can’t deal with that JUST BE JEALOUS!”

She pulls the camera in closer to herself before kissing the lens. She winks at the camera again before the video ends and the replay button flashes up on the screen.

023: What Have You Done Lately?

Date Posted: 29th April 2014

That's what this business is all about, isn't it? It's not what you've done that counts, not really. It's what you've done lately. Well earlier tonight I was thinking about what I've done lately, or what I haven't. I know the one thing I want to do though, and I'm going to keep fighting toward it.
