The video begins and we see Syren standing in what seems to be her bedroom in Malibu, California. She’s dressed in a Dark Fantasy shirt and has her arms crossed in front of herself, looking a little defensive. In the background behind her, lying on the bed, we see Ravyn Taylor. Syren looks into the camera before taking in a deep breath. “Hey guys. So, it’s Monday night, we’re home right now after a hell of a week, and obviously I’ve got a match coming up on Breakdown on Wednesday in Buffalo that’s pretty huge, but right now… well there are so many thoughts in my head that they won’t stay there for another hour, let alone another day,” she says before looking back over her shoulder at Ravyn who continues to lay there looking at her. As Syren turns back to the camera again we can see what her mind is obviously focused on. “I think there’s only one place to start, because I know you guys got to hear a little from me last week, and I obviously talked about some stuff on my blog the week before, but this is pretty much the first time I’ve been in front of a camera to talk to you guys like this since… well, what are we even calling it? Like, all the best scandals have their own name, right? This is like VancouverGate or something. I don’t know what to call it but I know how I feel about it, and everything that’s happened since, and… god, where to even begin?”
“I know when it comes to Dark Fantasy today we don’t do an awful lot of stuff together anymore. I know that you guys think that because when we do signings we normally sit together because, well, why wouldn’t we? And people are always like ‘oh, I remember watching you guys as a team, we miss you’ and ‘when are you going to team up again’ and stuff, and it makes me smile every time because guys, we never stopped being a team. Dark Fantasy never ended. And even when Ravyn and I were having personal problems – yah, I know, you guys don’t know a whole lot about that because it’s personal to us and it wasn’t something we wanted to throw up all over social media and whatever – Dark Fantasy never ‘broke up’. We never ended. We just had different goals, different focuses, and we’ve been doing our own thing for a long time, but we’ve been one hundred percent behind each other every step of the way and when we needed each other, like I needed Ravyn last year, we’re there for each other,” she says before smiling and looking over at Ravyn again, who also smiles. “And I’ll tell you this, I had an incredible Rise to Greatness this year, I faced David and it was a hell of a match and I was definitely beaten up after it, but I was in the back watching on the monitors as Ravyn had the biggest moment of her career and I could not have been more proud!”
“Except you wished it was you,” Ravyn adds jokingly and Zoe laughs.
“Ok, maybe a little,” she confesses before looking back to the camera again. “Seriously though you guys, I watched from the back as Ravyn had the biggest moment of career, the biggest moment you can have in this industry by main eventing the biggest show in wrestling, and she was incredible, and you guys saw that just like I did, I know you did. You guys have seen what she’s done, how far she’s come, what she’s fought back from, and if you listened to her before Rise to Greatness then you know more about her than you ever have before. You know what she’s been through. You know what she’s fought back from. You know how hard she’s pushed and worked. You guys saw it all, just like I did, and you know one thing: Ravyn Taylor is a survivor, but she didn’t just survive at Rise to Greatness, she rose! Biggest match you can have, the most pressure on you you’ll ever experience, pressure that I have choked under once before so I know how it feels, and Ravyn showed the world that it’s not about being ‘flawless’ or ‘perfect’, that it’s about rising to GREATness and that’s what she did, and what she should have been able to celebrate in front of the world, and what she had stolen from her and… I don’t even know how to begin to explain how angry I am about all of it. But the thing is that it goes way beyond that, doesn’t it?”
Ravyn nods her head. She sits up and swings her legs around to the front of the bed to stand up. “I think anyone who’s watched Zoe fighting against everything they put in front of her over the last few years will agree that while you people may look at us a certain way, that while even management may look at her a certain way – me not so much – there is absolutely no love for either one of us in the locker room,” the brunette says before laughing. “Now I think we’re both used to that. We’re both used to being the outcasts amongst our so-called peers, and while I’ve tried very hard to respect many of those individuals, including ones involved in unspeakable acts against me, the details of which I have no interest in recounting any further at this point, it would seem that that respect is very much a one-way street.”
“Yah, apparently it’s ‘very hard to feel pity’ for someone who you helped victimise once, condemned afterwards and told the world they ‘got what they deserved’ – just FYI, no woman or man deserves what happened to her in 2013, and anyone who thinks otherwise can go fuck themselves – but it’s super easy to believe that illegally using a Trios contract – a contract you claimed to have read the rules of but were obviously full of shit because, well, did I not tell you that was NOT how they were supposed to be used? But whatever, I’m always wrong I guess – along with attacking a woman from behind after a match and then pinning her while she’s barely conscious was TOTALLY fair and absolutely within the rules,” Syren says, clearly angered by the whole thing still as Ravyn puts her arm around her to help calm her down. “Sorry, it’s just the whole thing still drives me crazy. The fact that anyone could support that bullshit is astonishing to me, but then again so is the fact that people will whine and cry endlessly when they or their friends even face the slightest of problems, but will turn a blind eye to THAT bullshit or what happened to Adam Sharper and Jonathan Knots on Wednesday night. Seriously, guys, you know I have problems with Jonathan. He helped cost me the World title in March. Believe me, I have not forgotten that, but did he deserve to be spiked on his head on Wednesday? He’s not even a wrestler!”
The blonde runs her hands through her hair before turning away in frustration. She turns back to the camera again and sighs. “I know I’ve just mentioned two very specific things from two very specific people, but that’s just what stands out most in my mind at the moment and this isn’t just about those two. It’s about everyone. It’s about the victim blaming. It’s about celebrating hypocrisy. It’s about the fact that SCW has gone from being about being the BEST in this business to being the one who’ll take the cheapest shortcuts and spew the most bullshit and being celebrated for it, and honestly that just drives me crazy. For two hundred and twenty four days I was the reigning, defending SCW World Champion and I took on EVERY challenge without a ‘gauntlet’ before it, I fought for this company and fought to make the World title mean as much as it ever has, I fought to prove that women everywhere could be tough, resilient and equal to any man without resorting to batting my eyelashes, flashing my breasts or selling out what I stood for to get ahead,” she says proudly. “For two hundred and twenty four days I fought to show the world what being the BEST really meant, and at Rise to Greatness this woman right here was going to do the same thing, she was going to fight back from EVERYTHING that’s happened to her, and that was stolen from her and people rejoiced in it. And even now, after Breakdown, what happens? ‘You can do it Kelcey’. ‘You deserve it Kelcey’. Honestly, I can’t even put into words how I feel about you people right now…”
She runs her hands through her hair again and turns her back to the camera, shaking her head in disbelief as Ravyn just smiles. “Yet, in spite of all of it, in spite of all the hatred, in spite of the desire of so many of you to see us fail, here we stand, united, together, and more determined than ever to prove a point to the world…”
Syren turns back to the camera and nods her head. “Oh, you are so right about that,” she agrees strongly. “Now you guys, if you follow me on Twitter, know that I didn’t get much sleep still thinking about all of this on Wednesday night and even Thursday night, and honestly without DAVID HELMS of all people proving that he is, once again, the only truly good man in this business – seriously David, please don’t retire, there is nobody else who can take your place right now – I think I would have lost my mind completely looking at the locker rooms, but she is totally right! Because we do have SO MUCH to fight for right now, and we are going to fight for all of it! Just recently one self-absorbed, egotistical bitch that thinks she knows me told me that OBVIOUSLY I was saying everything I was, that I was defending Ravyn, that I was standing up for what was RIGHT and not what was EASY, because I was focused on claiming the World title for myself. That made me laugh, because it just shows how little she does know me and, I suspect, the rest of you know me as well. So let me clear something up right here. At Apocalypse Ravyn Taylor is going to become a two-time SCW World Champion and while as far as I’m concerned the line STILL starts with me for the next shot at that title I’m going on record right now as telling the world, just like always, that I will NOT fight Ravyn Taylor for that title.”
“That doesn’t mean I don’t want it. That doesn’t mean I still don’t think I deserve it. That doesn’t mean that I don’t believe that after beating Kennedy Street, Jake Starr, Lucas Knight and David Helms, finishing as a semi-finalist at Best of the Best and runner up in Taking Hold of the Flame, and not to mention being screwed in my rematch for the title in April, that I don’t believe that I am the top contender right now. What that means, however, is that I am not a petty, jealous whore who’ll try to take from someone I love something that means everything to her,” Syren says proudly before looking at Ravyn again and smiling. “She never came after the Women’s title. I’ve never gone after the United States title. The only time we’ve ever fought each other was Taking Hold of the Flame, and I still owe you for that, but when you succeed, I succeed, and when you’re happy, I’m happy, and I would never be the one that ended that, just like I know you’d never be the one who ended it for me. So on September 6th in Pittsburgh you’re going to win that belt back in the city of my birth and then we’re celebrating, together! And baby, before you say anything, you are going to win that belt back and put all the ‘controversy’ behind you, show the world what you’re capable of, and STAND TALL just like you should have at Rise to Greatness. I have absolute faith in you…”
Ravyn smiles at her and the two kiss. “Just so you know,” the brunette says softly to her, “I wasn’t going to tell you you’re wrong…”
Syren laughs before taking in a deep breath and turning back to the camera. “Ok, so, that’s enough of that, right? I think that clears up just about every part of all of this bullshit, so now let’s stop looking back and start looking forward, and start looking forward to Wednesday night when I step into the ring against Vixen Cain, once again with everything to prove. Because that’s what I do! I step in that ring against anyone and prove myself. And it doesn’t matter if it’s David Helms, arguably the best wrestler in the history of this company, Supreme Champion, former idol of mine and a guy I had a deeply personal reason to lock up with, or it’s Shaya Blackley coming off the biggest win or her career and looking to build on that and further her position, or it’s Lucas Knight, with all the crazy history I have with him, or it’s Alexis Quinne, the current kingpin of my favourite division, or even if it’s Vixen Cain, a newcomer on a roll who just claimed victory over one of the most dangerously unpredictable women I’ve ever been in the ring with, I step into that ring EVERY time and I fight to prove myself EVERY time. This match with Vixen however is one I’m looking forward to, for two reasons. The first is that Vixen Cain presents a unique challenge. He’s not exactly your traditional wrestler after all, is he ‘dearies’? I swear from the way he talks I feel like he’s Mrs Doubtfire’s illegitimate child…”
She shakes her head and rolls her eyes. “I’ll tell you one thing about Vixen Cain though and that’s that he’s unusual in all the right ways. This is a guy who’s talked about how much he wants to bring the violence back to the business, a guy who says he wants the competition, a guy who rants and raves about pedicure photographs on Twitter with the same outrage I feel watching people I love – or even people I hate – being totally screwed over in the ring. Oh, and just so you know Vixen, because of that,” she says before reaching out and tilting the camera down to her feet, wiggling her bare, perfectly pedicured toes to the camera, before lifting it up again and grinning, “I love pedicures too. It’s a girl thing, which is weird because you already seem to have embraced so many weirdly girly things but yet that enrages you? Do you want to know what enrages me? People who make death threats on Twitter! People who make death threats in general, actually, now that I think about it. What else? People who run their mouths on Twitter when they win, acting like bad winners and bragging about how amazing they are, and then flipping that around and crying and whining endlessly on Twitter when they lose. ‘Oh, but Zoe, you do that too’, right? No, I don’t. I get angry on social media like once every six months, not EVERY SINGLE GODDAMN WEEK! Oh, and there’s one more thing that really pisses me off… people who make threats of rape!”
“Yah, I’m talking to you, Vixen. What is it you said to Ducky? This might not be one hundred percent right but it was something like ‘in front of thousands of people, I will fuck you until you are raw’. That’s classy, really! That’s the kind of beautiful poetry every girl wants to hear. I just do not know why she doesn’t like you,” she says sarcastically before raising her eyebrows and looking at Ravyn who just rolls her eyes and sighs. “Yah, that, ladies and gentlemen, is my next opponent. Now if I didn’t already have motivation from all the bullshit behind me then lines like THAT would have given it to me. But while that was the most disgusting thing you had to say to her, someone whom I have a crazy amount of respect for, it was not the stupidest thing you had to say. The stupidest thing you had to say was actually directed at me. That was, while you were ranting and raving about pedicure photos on Twitter, talking about the way this game has changed, talking about those you don’t believe deserve to be here, and throwing my name in the mix with all the others. Because you know me that well, huh? And because you think I’m one of them? Because you think that pictures of my toes looking pretty mean more to me than getting in that ring and shoving my foot down your throat for disrespecting me and disrespecting women in general?”
“Let me say this, Vixen. I don’t like the women you’re talking about. I can’t stand them, actually. They are everything about this business that I have spent SIX YEARS fighting against. They are entitled little bitches, while I am the hardest working woman in this industry, bar none – sorry baby, but true,” she says, glancing over at Ravyn briefly before continuing, “but whether you like them or not they have still done something that you haven’t. They’ve fought their way up the ladder. You talk about beating the hell out of people, but so far that hasn’t exactly been tested, has it sweetie? You’ve done a great job in the ring when you’ve been given the chance without a doubt. You’ve made an impact. You won your first match at Rise to Greatness, something that even some of the all-time greats can’t say they’ve done. You’ve been tested and you’ve come through, but don’t think that a few weeks worth of matches puts you on the same level as them, girls who’ve been fighting their way to the top for the last few years, LET ALONE that it gives you ANY right to talk about me! I mean god, I don’t play the veteran card very often, but sweetie the last show was my sixth year anniversary, I’m into my seventh year in Supreme Championship Wrestling now, I am a three-time World Champion, a two-time World Tag Team Champion, two-time Women’s Champion, three-time Trios Tournament winner and four-time Female of the Year, and you think I don’t understand what it means to be a wrestler?”
She laughs and shakes her head in disbelief. “I’m the girl who stands in that ring and tells man or woman to come down and fight, I’m not the one who hides behind an army of lackeys or thinks she’s part of a fucking monarchy,” she says sternly. “I’m not a ‘princess’, I’m not a ‘queen’, I’m not ‘perfect’, I’m not ‘flawless’, but what I am is the BEST FEMALE WRESTLER IN THE WORLD, and SECOND TO NO MAN! That’s something you’ll want to keep in mind when we step into that ring this Wednesday night sweetie, while you’re so busy grouping me up with everyone else and telling me that I don’t belong, telling me to ‘see how far I go’ against that ‘hunk of a man’ that is David Helms, you know, the one I beat on the biggest stage in wrestling! I’m not going to give you blood, I’m not going to give you carnage, I’m not playing into your misogynistic crap, even if you do really like Ravyn, which is weird. Did you see that? It’s like he’s your only fan…”
Ravyn scoffs. “He’s the one, huh? Well, that’s disappointing…”
Syren laughs and looks back to the camera. “Anyway, like I was saying, I’m not playing into your misogynistic crap, and in fact I’m making it my personal quest on Wednesday night to make sure that every time you disrespect women, every time you rant and rave about who belongs and who doesn’t, you’ll get to think back to what happens inside the First Niagara Center on Wednesday night when you tell the world how satisfied you’re going to be, and I drop you on your face in the middle of the ring with the Total Makeover,” she says confidently. “And that name? Oh that’s got to piss you off, right? The Total Makeover, and here you are already thinking that you’re so damn pretty! It’s going to happen though sweetie. I know you’ll doubt that, though. I don’t blame you. You’re coming into this one looking for the perfect strategy to use against me, right? You’ve got your own army of minions, one for just about every situation, and you probably think with everything you think you know about me, with everything you’ve been able to watch, with all the hours of tape you’ve been able to study that you’ll know me inside and out, while I know nothing about you. Well, not nothing, but not enough. You’re right, to some degree. I don’t know much about you. I don’t know everything you’ve got. I don’t know your strategy. And there aren’t a whole lot of tapes. I also know you’ve beaten former World Champions before, so thinking this is another one, right?”
“What’s the strategy going to be, sweetie? It doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter what you think you know about me. It doesn’t matter how well prepared you are. I’ll tell you for why. At Rise to Greatness I faced ‘that hunk’ David Helms, remember? And you know my history with him, right? We lived together. We travelled together. We trained together. We slept together. We went everywhere together. We even teamed together! If there was one opponent who knew me inside and out it was David. He knew what I was thinking about hitting before I did. He countered just about everything I threw at him. You saw the match, right? And we beat the hell out of each other. I know it was a hell of a show, but I actually like to think that Syren versus David Helms STOLE THE SHOW at Rise to Greatness. And he knew everything about me. You… well, from what I’ve heard of your ranting before you don’t know a damn thing about me, but I hope you’ve done more research than that before now. And if I could find a way to overcome the odds, overcome his experience, overcome his size and overcome the fact that he knows EVERY one of my tricks and STILL beat him on the biggest stage in this business, then sweetie, whatever you’ve got in store for me and however well you think you know me I can promise you I WILL find a way to overcome, because that’s what I’ve been doing since August 19th 2009. But you feel free to tell me I’m wrong, because I’ve been proving people wrong since then as well.”
“You went one on one with Ducky, someone like I said I have a lot of respect for after battling her in the past – winning and losing against her – and while I may not understand her half as well as you claimed to I will say this: on Wednesday night I’m going to get in that ring and I’m going to fight for her, I’m going to fight for her after you knocked her out cold after your match at Rise to Greatness – justifiable defence? No, hitting anyone, especially a woman, in the face with that gauntlet thing of yours is never justifiable – and I’m going to fight for everyone else you’ve talked down to, everyone else you’ve thought you’re better than, even if I don’t like them, because I really don’t like people like you, sweetie,” she says sternly. “Are you talented? Yah, you’re talented. Are you capable of going all the way in this business? Yah, I think you might be. Are you ready for it yet? Probably not, but maybe! Does that give you a right to talk down to me, to talk down to anyone else, and put yourself above us all? No, it doesn’t. You want wrestling sweetie? You’ve come to the right place. You want someone who’ll show you what SCW is REALLY all about? You know where to find me, right? I’ll be the one standing in the middle of the ring, with a sold out crowd cheering, telling you to bring it on, fighting you with everything I have, proving myself against you and every other person who looks down their goddamn nose at me endlessly, and when the match is over, when I drop you on your face, when I pin your shoulders to the mat, you can look back up, you can admit to me you were wrong, or you can BE TOTALLY JEALOUS!”
She winks at the camera. “Your choice, ‘dearie’.”
With that she blows a kiss at the camera before turning to Ravyn and kissing her as well. The scene then fades out with the replay button flashing up on the screen.
