The video begins with a close up of the SCW World Heavyweight Championship. It sits with pride in the middle of the screen, practically shining with the light shining down on it. With the title taking up it’s proud position in the middle of the video we remain focused on it as we hear the voice of the new champion from behind the camera. “What you’re looking at is the SCW World Heavyweight Championship. You’re looking at it because of one year’s hard work, determination and commitment to starting at the bottom and fighting back to the top. You’re looking at it because of one year’s desire to take on every challenge and fight with heart through them all. But what you’re looking at doesn’t represent those things. The SCW World Heavyweight Championship doesn’t represent my desire, my hard work and my commitment. The fact I hold it does. But the SCW World Heavyweight Championship means so much more than that,” she says with pride as she continues to focus the camera on the title belt. “What you’re looking at is more than it appears to be. What you’re looking at is not a trinket to be fought over by petty bitches who deem themselves beyond reproach. What you’re looking at is not a prize to be handed out to the individual who can cause the most damage to everyone around them personally, professionally and physically. What you’re looking at does not represent the ability to hurt another person. What you’re looking at is a BEACON OF HOPE in a time of darkness. What you’re looking at is the representation of everything right in this business!”

She zooms the camera in even more on the title before zooming out and spinning it around, pointing it at herself and smiling. “Now that might seem like a hell of a build up for that title, but every single word of it is true. You see that’s what the World Heavyweight Championship can represent. And living up to that standard, living up to that level of representation, is what being the SCW World Heavyweight Champion is meant to be about. And yet so often that title is looked at as a trinket to throw over your shoulder. So often that title is looked at as a status symbol. And it’s sought after for its perceived worth as a status symbol. People think that HOLDING the SCW World Heavyweight Championship means they’re the best in the world, and they do anything they can think of – use every underhanded bullshit method they can come up with, cry and whine and moan about how deserving they are, and make threat after threat against everyone around them – to get their hands on it because they believe that that’s how it works. They’re wrong. You see in the wrong hands that title is just another belt. It’s just another set of gold plates fastened to a leather strap the same as a thousand other belts all around the world. But in the right hands, in the hands of those who’ve proven they deserve it, it becomes the embodiment of the greatest wrestling company in the world,” she says before smiling a little. “And before you think it no, I’m not saying that I’m that. I’m not saying that I’m the embodiment of everything SCW should be. But I’m trying to be!”

“I made you guys a promise, didn’t I?” she asks before nodding her head. “I promised you guys that I would fight for that title, that I would give everything I had to win that title, and that if I did – when I did – I would represent it as a true champion should. Now that’s not saying anything negative about Amy Chastaine. I may not agree with everything she’s always had to say – and like I said before she’s entitled to be wrong about me if she so desires to be, it’s not like she’s the only one who is after all – but Amy is a woman who’s fought hard, who’s overcome a lot of personal demons, who’s gotten an opportunity, got knocked back, and kept going strong. She was never a woman who stopped and cried and complained and threw her toys out of the cot and refused to play with others. She was a woman who got up, dusted herself down and went again. I respected that. I respected her. And when we fought we took each other to the absolute limit. We fought for forty minutes on Breakdown. If you want an idea of how insane that is, they had to actually cancel another title match because the two of us just went out there and didn’t stop. We beat each other up so much that we both cost each other the opportunity to go into Best of the Best one hundred percent, but I think we both approached that match knowing what we’d need to do to beat one another, knowing what we’d have to give to overcome one another, and being willing to make the sacrifice for ‘tomorrow’ in order to achieve right there, right then. And I respected her before. I don’t have a word for how I felt about her after. ‘Respect’ doesn’t seem enough.”

“But I made a promise, and I intend to keep it. And being the SCW World Heavyweight Champion doesn’t mean tweeting about it. Being the SCW World Heavyweight Champion doesn’t mean hash tagging it. Being the SCW World Heavyweight Champion doesn’t mean posting pictures of the title on Twitter or Instagram. Being the SCW World Heavyweight Champion means getting back up, brushing yourself down, and fighting the NEXT challenge with everything you’ve got just as much as the LAST one. So, Wednesday, April 6, after a Match of the Year candidate with Amy Chastaine, I became the SCW World Heavyweight Champion. Saturday, April 30, I’m going to put the title on the line in Tokyo, Japan, in front of some of the most respectful and committed wrestling fans in the world and inside an arena that has been host to some of the greatest events in the history of the country. And do you guys want to know a little secret? I am super psyched about the opportunity to do so,” she says before nodding her head and grinning. She reaches down and picks up the SCW World Heavyweight Championship, unclipping it with one hand before placing it over her shoulder, all the while continuing to film herself. “Seriously you guys, I won this title in my home town, in front of my family and my friends, in an arena that means so much to me in the STAPLES Center. Tomorrow night my first defence is inside the Tokyo Dome in front of fifty thousand people? Does it GET better than that? If it does, I don’t know how!”

She looks at the title on her shoulder with pride before turning back to the camera. “And yah, I’ve already mentioned the time and the effort I went through to win back this title, and I’ll tell you guys straight up the battle and the climb back to this belt was hard, it was really hard at times, and the things I went through personally, the challenges I had to overcome professionally, were pretty intense at times, but I knew I’d make it back to this point, I knew I’d be holding this title again, and I knew that every struggle, every bruise and injury I got inside the Elimination Chamber, every time I got put through the announce table, and every beating I took at the hands of those who tried to keep me down, would be worth it just to raise this title over my head, and I was right. But my job isn’t done. My job was not to win this title, clap my hands together and think ‘mission accomplished’ and relax. My job was to win this title and DEFEND this title. My job was to win this title and REPRESENT THIS COMPANY. And that’s what I’m going to do. And right now that matters more than at any other time considering not only how deep the pool is containing the challenges for this title but because of what so many of them represent,” she says, nodding her head before letting out a sigh. “I spoke about overcoming challenges in my personal life. Well, a lot of those people represent everything I have struggled against. They represent hatred. They represent bigotry. They represent nothing more than their own ego and their desperate desire to placate that. And I’ve lost this title to that BEFORE, and look how that turned out? I’m determined it won’t happen again!”

“That’s a big challenge though considering who’s coming after me, and how many of them made their presence known a few weeks ago. Red Rayne is coming for me. I know that. She’s coming for everything, it seems. Kelcey Wallace is coming for me. She has a Trios Contract that will likely see her main eventing Rise to Greatness to come for this title,” she says before patting the belt, “and if it’s still on my shoulder then then I’ll see her in Milwaukee, or before. Who knows! Regan Street is coming for this title. She’s made it clear that ‘friendships are inconveniences’, and she also made it clear by attacking me on Breakdown a few weeks ago before threatening me because where she’s concerned she’s the only name that should be on the lips of anyone. Then there’s Kennedy Street, who never shuts up about what she thinks she deserves. And there’s Amy Chastaine, the former champion I’m looking forward to facing again, title or non-title, just to see if we can top last time out. And that’s just scratching the surface! That’s not even looking at the huge number of hard working outsiders who absolutely deserve opportunities at this title, or former champions who’ve never gotten a chance to reclaim it. Believe me, I know who’s coming for me. I know the target I have on my back… and my arm. You’ll be happy to know that’s feeling a LOT better now, by the way, and genuinely thank you to all the people who sent so much love to me over social media. But the first challenge I’m going to have to face isn’t a woman on that list. It’s a woman who deserves to be on her OWN list.”

She nods her head respectfully. “Now there is so much I want to do with this title, so much that I want to represent while champion, but in order to do that I have to live up to everything I said and I have to be the BEST champion I can be. The first step toward that is Tokyo, Japan on Saturday night and a one on one match against Rachel Foxx! And you guys want to know how I feel about that?” she asks before smiling, nodding her head slightly, and then getting a bit more serious. “First of all, who saw that coming, right? Whoever made this match didn’t go to the list of those kicking and screaming and demanding to be noticed or the list of those with legitimate reasons to challenge but went straight for an outsider and yet a woman that not a single person on this roster can claim does not DESERVE this opportunity. And if you think that’s wrong, if you think YOU deserve it more than she does, then maybe you should check your ego at the door. After all, all of you people who have been ‘coming for this title’ have put your name on a list that Rachel Foxx’s has been on for a long time already! She’s made no secret of that. She’s made no secret of her desire to challenge for this belt. And a few months ago, at Retribution, she stepped into that ring in the same Triple Jeopardy match I did, she fought her ass off the same as I did, and it wasn’t her that was the one who lost on that night. I knew how much she wanted it then. I knew how much she wanted the opportunity then. So when I saw her name on Breakdown last week… well, I felt like justice had been done.”

She laughs a little, clearly at the word she put the emphasis on. “And you know what? That doesn’t happen around here a whole lot, does it? How many times can you say that true justice has been done when it comes to any title, let alone this one? But yah, I heard Rachel’s name and I felt like justice was done. I felt like someone somewhere had gone off script, and by doing so they’d given someone like Rachel Foxx, someone with a legacy almost unmatched in this company, someone who’s fought through everything in this company, someone who’s shattered the glass ceilings along with the Katie Stewards of the company, an opportunity she hasn’t had since September 2013. Back then she took on Shilo Valiant, she gave a lot and the match ended… controversially. This Saturday in Japan I know she’s going to have even more to give, I know controversy follows her around everywhere she goes, and yet I’m standing right now without a single doubt in my mind that I’m absolutely ready for what’s about to go down,” she says before smiling again with pride and readiness. “You see every challenger I’ve listed today presents their own set of challenges but Rachel Foxx possibly presents the biggest set of challenges of them all. I’ve listed a lot of people today but most of them are rookies around here in comparison to her. When I first walked through the door the name of Rachel Foxx already loomed hugely in front of me. Now? Well, there’s only one person around here who DOESN’T think she’s got a guaranteed spot in the Hall of Fame in her future and that’s HER!”

“I’ve given plenty of credit where credit has been due in the past and I’ve talked about girls who are some of the best in the world at everything they do, but when you want to talk about the TOUGHEST woman in this business – the toughest woman who’s EVER been in this business – then there’s only one name on the shortlist, and that’s Rachel Foxx. I mean there is nobody else I’d even put in the same category as her! The things she endured in the Underground alone prove that there is nothing this woman cannot get up from. And yet this Saturday, inside one of the most infamous arenas in the world, I have to find a way to put her down for a three count? I’ve seen her get back up after being hit between the eyes with the heaviest of steel objects, I seriously once believed that she had to be a fucking TERMINATOR to do the things she’s done, then I saw Terminator 3 and realised that nope, even Kristanna Loken’s character couldn’t survive the things Rachel has,” she says before laughing and looking at the World title for a moment and then looking back to the camera. “I mean seriously you guys, this is the challenge I have ahead of me on Saturday night. And it’s fucking exciting, right? Because I know what she’s going to bring. I know the fight she’s going to bring. I know the lengths she’s willing to go to. I’ve seen the fire in her eyes when she’s looked in to the camera and promised the world that it would be HER time next and I’ve gotten goose bumps just watching. I know what she’s going to bring. But I know on Saturday night I can bring MORE!”

She doesn’t laugh this time, just nods her head with absolute certainty. “You see if it takes fighting the toughest woman on the planet to defend this title then I’m walking out to that ring on Saturday and I’m fighting her. If it takes overcoming the most hardcore bitch in SCW HISTORY to walk out of Tokyo with this title then I’m overcoming her. I have no other choice.  I’m not going to whine. I’m not going to complain. I’m not going to say ‘oh, why are they doing this to me’. I’m DEFINITELY not going to tell a single person that Rachel doesn’t deserve this. I promised you all that I would be a champion who ELEVATED this title, who ROSE to the challenges that come from being champion, and who represented everything that Supreme Championship Wrestling SHOULD BE and SCW should absolutely be about a woman with an EIGHT YEAR legacy in this company getting a shot she’s wanted for so very long. Every single goddamn day I see new people who are telling the world before the ink is even dry on their contract what THEY deserve. Well I’m going to tell you right now that people like Rachel Foxx are the ones who deserve it. She’s been here more than eight years, I’ve almost been here seven, so in Tokyo at Supreme Saturday you’re going to witness a fight between two women who have DEFINED this company and I know how hard it’s going to be to put Rachel down on that mat – I’ve fought her a lot of times and it’s never easy to put her down but when she’s this motivated it’s going to be next to impossible to stop her – so strap yourselves in guys, get snacks before the match and make DAMN sure you don’t need to use the bathroom because on Saturday night you’re not going to want to miss what happens!”

She nods her head and looks at the title for a moment. “And guys, you know how I’ve felt about Rachel as a person over the years, don’t you? You know she and I have never seen eye to eye on a goddamn thing. You know the reason we’ve fought each other as often as we have is because we’ve always been in competition, never on the same side, and so often it’s been her standing for everything that I’m against. I could tell you every detail of my history with her, how she smacked me in the face with a sledgehammer inside Tactical Warfare way back in 2013 resulting in me genuinely not remembering a single thing that happened that night, or how we fought again in Tactical Warfare in 2014 when she stood for what I truly believed then, and still believe now, was a cancer in this industry that needed cutting out. I could tell you how much I’ve hated her, I could tell you how much I’ve despised those she calls friends and family, but none of that means she doesn’t deserve to be standing in that ring on Saturday, none of that changes the fact that she’s going to give the fight of her life on Saturday, but what it does change is the motivation I have for going into this match. You see I don’t know about Rachel recently. Just recently I’ve started to question what I thought I knew about her. But I do know what she’s capable of. I do know what she’s capable of being. And I do know I don’t trust her,” she says solemnly. “And I’m not just talking about Saturday either. I don’t trust her to represent this…”

She slides the World title off her shoulder and holds it up in her left hand while continuing to film with her right. “I’ve said it already and I’ve meant it: this title is not a status symbol, this title NEEDS to be a beacon in a time of darkness. And Rachel Foxx we all know is capable of bringing more of that darkness than anyone else, don’t we? Will she, this Saturday? I don’t know. I can’t tell you. But I know she’s capable of it and that scares me. It scares me not just for the thought of what she might do to me, but what she might do if she takes this belt,” she says, looking at the title again for a moment. “And I’m not willing to take that risk. People around the world associate this company – wrestling itself even, given what a prominent place in the business this company has in the eyes of the world – with so many negative things right now. But that’s not what wrestling is. That’s not the way they SHOULD see us. We have a chance to be role models. We have a chance to be BETTER than those who try to bring us down and criticise us, to RISE UP in the face of their hatred and to STAND TALL in spite of it. And guys, that’s what I promised I’d do when I won this title. And this Saturday that’s what I’m going out there to deliver. I know how much Rachel wants this. Professionally I can’t fault her. But the reasons she wants this… I’m not sure I agree with them. Hell, I’m not sure I agree with the reasons most people want this! This is a title that represents hard work, commitment, honour, strength and the ability to endure, and people like Regan Street think they can earn it with a cheap shot in the back.”

She shakes her head. “I promised you guys a new era. I WILL deliver. Because I’m damn sure fighting for me, I’m not going to lie about that, but I’m not just fighting for me. I’m fighting for people like my sister, wonderful people who’ve had their lives ruined by bullies. I’m fighting for people like Laura Fielding, a young SCW fan who may never walk again because she was the victim of an attack by people who only care about themselves. I’m fighting for every hard working person in the world who gets up and gives their all to make ends meet, to save up and to dream of better things to come and not reduce themselves to bullying, intimidation and outright criminality to get ahead. I promised you guys I would be a champion you could be proud of and when I walk out to that ring on Saturday night that is what I’m going to deliver,” she says with pride. “There’s fifteen years of commitment to this company fighting it out in the main event inside the Tokyo Dome on Saturday night and I promise you guys we’re stealing the show, but I almost promise that as tough as Rachel Foxx is, as hard as she hits and as often as she’ll knock me down I WILL force myself forward, I WILL get back up and I WILL keep fighting, and as impossible as she may be to put down I WILL find a way and I WILL put her down on that mat because I know how much she wants THIS title but she’s not the only one who does. I know how much she’s obsessed over getting this opportunity but on Saturday night I’ve got an obsession too and it’s putting this title where it NEEDS to be, making it a beacon for everything RIGHT about this sport we love, and this Saturday in the Tokyo Dome I’m walking in the current, reigning and defending SCW World Heavyweight Champion, and I’m walking out the exact same way. And if you want to hate on me for that may I suggest you use that energy in a different way instead, and just BE TOTALLY JEALOUS!”

She pauses for a moment then places the World title over her shoulder with pride and takes another deep breath before smiling once again. “I made you guys a lot of promises. Saturday I deliver.”

She pulls the camera in close and plants a kiss on the lens before smiling once more as the scene fades out to black and the video reaches its end. A few seconds later the replay button flashes up on the screen.

096: Keeping Promises

Date Posted: 29th April 2016

It happened. I made promises. Now I intend to keep them. Tomorrow night I step into the Tokyo Dome for another huge match and I'm truly excited about it. I'm truly excited about facing my opponent. But make no mistake, I'm playing to win.
